Subject: Flowmaster/Magnaflow IP: Logged
Message: I currently have a magnaflow on my truck (3.9). I hate the way it sounds. It only sounds decent at idle.
I was thinking about swapping it for a Flowmaster 50 series. Is this a good move?
I want it to sound more like a V8 rather than a ricer.
The guy that installed it said he likes Magnaflow on 3.9's better. That was even when I called asking how much it'd be to put on a Flowmaster. So, I know its unbiased.
But I've heard a Ford 4.2 that sounded decent with a Flowmaster. Even my friend's 2.2 liter S-10 sounds better and it has a Flowmaster.
Let me know...

Message: Hey i have magnaflow y pipe with JBA headers and i think with the headers made the biggest difference with that magnaflow muffler it rumbles now. It sounds like a v8 but its slow as hell with my lil v6. Im not sure bout the flowmaster 50 series but one of my friends put that muffler on his jimmy with everything stock and it sounds pretty good.

Message: if you get a 40 series and make it a turn down, it should sound pretty good. when i got my exhaust done, the person installing it said that magnaflow is alittle better for performance and lasts longer. but flowmaster has the sound that everybody wants. so.....
a turn down makes it sound a lot beefier

Message: I have run the 40 series flowmaster with split duals for a few years now. It's loud and becomes a little raspy in the upper rpms. Remember, no muffler will overcome an odd number of cylinders on a cylinder head. The sound will be close but not identical to that of the V8, Vipers have a similar exhaust note to the V6 because of this. Do a search in this site, I believe someone has sound clips on their webpage of the flowmaster on a Dakota. Hope this helps.
