I was wondering if any of you guys had some pro's and con's for this 98 dakota im about to buy but not quite sure. It is a SLT 3.9 v6 manual 4X4 w/ 81k mi. Bed liner, towing pkg, alloy wheels, wide off road tires, 4 wheel abs. Looks really nice. Just wondering your opinions on 98's like this and is $9895.00 a good price? Thanks

Yeah i did that. It came out to about $10,000. I was kinda just looking for personal (yet professional) opinions. Maybe like downfalls to 98's that arent advertised?

That's not true. Just don't expect to be able to tow too much and don't expect it to drive like a sports car. IMHO towing heavy loads in a 4x4 is way too hard on the drive train anyway.

One thing about buying a used 4x4 anything. It's easy to really mess up the t-case and it's expensive to fix. I think it's fair to say that many folks don't know how or when to properly use the 4WD. I'd take it to a good independent mechanic and have it checked over. At the price you would be paying your only $105.00 short of $10,000 so the truck should be in very good to excellent shape both mechanically and appearence wise.

Don't be afraid to walk away because a 4x4 that's been rode hard and put away wet can be a really dicey proposition. Also, have the lower and upper ball joints checked out. My 97 4x4 ate lowers like they were gummy bears. Ball joints are a weak point on G3 Dakotas.

Remember there's always a better deal somewhere so don't be afraid to walk. It's not like there's a shortage of used Dakotas.
