Subject: Chriping Noise IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 dakota 3.9L and i am geting a chriping noise from around the engine.I know its not the belts.But i was wondering if any of you guys have had a noise like this before.I was thinking it was the water pump.It made a noise like this when it was going out last year.Any help would be very great.Thanks

Message: I forgot a few things....
It doesnt do it all the time, it doesnt matter if the truck is cold or warm.And only happens when its at idle.
And it has 66k miles

Message: Could be a bearing in the tensioner pulley or it could be a sign that one of the bearings in your alternator is dying. Likewise for the a/c comp if you have a/c.
Take the serpentine belt off and turn everything by hand (engine off of course) and se if anything is tight or makes a scrscrscr noise when you turn it.

Message: I have a 90 Dakota And it drove me nuts. I tighten the bracket for the power steering and that seemto take care of it. Also take the belt off your air pump and start the engine and see if it is not the pump. Good luck. Stan
