Message: if your truck has less than 80k miles, and is younger than 8 yrs, then the dealer will do it under federal emissions warranty.

Message: Yeah, you torch it off/cut it off. While the dealer may
change it out, they may put the same crappy part back on
again. I went aftermarket when my 99 Dakota's cat went
bad after three years.

Message: 100% free garbage is still garbage. Not to mention the personal time you waste going to the dealer, dropping your truck off, getting a ride if you need it for work and then coming back to the dealer. One big waste if you ask me.
To each his own, I guess. It's just my goofy opinion.

Message: Mine was rattling, depends amount of rust underneath (mine was rusted, I don't suggest Sawzall) stick with torch, high speed cut-off wheel, watch fuel/brake lines down pass. side frame rail. I picked up Hedman high flow at local goodie shop for around $40, pay for good clamps, or take to small exhaust shop to weld. Probably won't warranty though. The hedman is a tad shorter than my stock '96, had to also get short 2ft. section of exh. pipe. Noticed more performance when done broken cat internals must have been plugging. Especially higher rpms.
