Subject: Belt squeel IP: Logged
Message: hey guy's here is a continual problem I am having with my belt. I just ahd the tensioner and belt replaced, but the darm thing still squeels every time I start it up especially in warmer damper weather. It will go away eventually on it's own. I thought I might adjust the tensioner (if I even can). Do any of you have the same problem, and is there an explination or fix for this one (I do NOT want to use Dove soap). Thanks...

Message: Ed, I will make a lot of assumptions based on your information. If this is a magnum engine with the spring loaded tensioner, it is self adjusting. Did you replace your tensioner because it no longer kept the belt tight? You may want to check the state of charge of your battery, and charge it if it is low. This can cause the alternator to "full field" and drag on the belt. You also may want to remove the belt and turn each accessory pulley by hand and check for binding. Lastly, if none if this helps you may want to try a different brand serpentine belt. Good luck.

Message: My Dak did the same damn thing. Everytime i hit water or warmed it up. Really annoyed the heck out of me, but my dad fixed it so i might seem stupid. He replaced the idler wheel. I'm not a gearhead, wish i was but after that i could take creeks and big puddles with no trouble. I wouldn't recommend you do that tho. After i hit a giant puddle once the engine didn't run good for a while because i'm sure i clogged it water. But that fixed my truck though.

Message: i had the exact same problem. Turned out to to be the water pump. It was making noise for a while before it actually started leaking, so just keep an eye out

Message: Thanks for the info. FYI it is a 2000 dakota 3.9. The tensioner was changed at the dealer for the same problem I explained above, this solved the problem for about a month or two. My battery is fine I just checked it about 2 weeks ago. I think I might look into the pully, it sounds like the culpret. If it is the idler might that also effect my idle? Thanks for all the imput!

Message: Is there a recall on any of the things like idler pulleys, and auto tension pulleys? It seems to go bad on a lot of 2000 V6 dakotas.

Message: Not that I know of, if they do they should mail you a packet. Try to just do the work yourself, these dealerships will just try to run the price up half the time. I ended up just replacing the belt and that fixed it, also I checked the tensioner and it was slightly off.
