Subject: pictures of how you modded intake? IP: Logged
Message: Hi has anyone modified an intake manifold for a 97+ Dakota (3.9)? I hear about cutting down the plenum divider and shortening the runners. Anyone got any pictures of this? Or guidance for tools needed and the procedure? I'll keep digging in the mean time.

Message: I took a 12lb sledge and beat the manifold down to a more appropriate hieght.
You should try that.

Message: No pics but
shroten the runners from stock 16" to 14" and
remove the devider this will tune the manifold
for the 2000 to 4000 rpm range with no low end
lose, a very noticeable improvement over 2000 rpm
And match the ports to the heads

Message: j&j do u think it would be bad to cut the runners down to 13 or 13 1/2 inches? any more power gain or what?

Message: You can go 13 1/2 it will be about the same but
If you cut them back to 12 it will tune the
manifold for higher rpm 3000 and up on a stock or
near stock motor you don't want to do that it will
effect the low end to a point that would not be
good
The more you shorten the runners the higher up
your power curve goes and need to rev higher
13 1/2 or 14 is just right and is actualy what
Hughes engine mods there stage 1 manifold to
Stage 2 is 12" and a 3000 to 6000 rpm range

Message: these are some old scanned photos of mine.. i'll try to get some new ones for better viewing
stock manifold
modified manifold
all i did was chop down the divider about 1.5" and then cut the runners even with it. After that i honed the injector bosses a little and opened up the throttle bores a little.

Message: whats are your thoughts on filling the manifold to reduce the volume inside? and what do you need to use to do this?
