Subject: Blew Rocker on Stocker IP: Logged
Message:
Dam went for a ride at 5am heard a noise in the 92
stock 3.9, right when I turned in my driveway it began
to miss.
Pulled valve cover and found one of the crowers off
keepers gone and the rocker jammed the retainer against
the valve luckily and kept it from dropping in the cyl.
Man you never know what you get in a rolled truck
the guy must have been beating the crap out of it
before he rolled it.
I am pissed that motor did not even make it a week.
I guess I will be busy now putting a new retainer and
keeper in, man a few others had aligning washer damage
he must have not followed instructions when he put
them in, this is the first one I ever seen do that.
Going to try a new retainer and keepers and put a set
of stock rockers in the motor, I cant be without my
dak that long my stroker will not be ready to go back
in for a few weeks
Man Am I Pissed
All this before 6am, Bad day I think I will go back to
bed before anything else goes wrong. LOL

Message: Same thing happened to me. But I lost the top of the number 3 piston as the exhaust valve made it's escape to the oil pan. Good luck.

Message: Just got off the phone with the guy I got the truck from
wondered where the computer went.
He said it was a mopar performance PCM and was
watching the tach hit 6000rpm just when he ran off the
road and rolled the truck not watching the road
That explains it you cant rev the regular crowers over
5500 rpm the springs will float and the rocker will bounce
and hit the alignment washers.
You need the rev kit to rev these motors over 5500rpm
like what I have in my stroker, the A$$
I guess I will have to send the 3 bad ones to crower and
have them rebuilt there are 3 with washer damage
Have not looked for the 2 keepers yet, I hope I
don't have to pull the manifold
I got lucky and did not drop the valve it was held
up from the rocker jaming the spring against the
valve and did not even bend the push rod
Oh what fun we have

Message: beleave it or not I found both the keepers and
they look good going to put them on and pop the
valve a few times with a brass pin and be sure
they will stay.
I have all my books packed away for the move to
the new shop does anyone know the torque on the
stock rockers 15 seams to ring a bell.
I will check here in an hour or so or start
digging out my books

Message: The torque is 21 foot pounds,
I also found that after I released the lock I
could unscrew every nut with my fingers called
the guy again and he said they would not run at
3/4 turn so he backed them off untill they clicked
and just went down untill it stoped clicking
NO NO the roller lifters in these trucks need
.050 to .060 preload no wonder,
If any one installes the crowers go 3/4 and you
may have to step on the gas to keep it running
and in most cases it will take about 5 min for
the lifters to bleed down and adjust themselfs
don't make the mistake this guy did
He's lucky he did not end up with the probs I did
gave him a grand for the rolled 92 dak sport.
All is well now with stock rockers will be sending
3 to crower to rebuild and than put them back in
unless my stroker motor gets done first than that
is going back in
Took longer to make the tool to compress the
spring than it did to replace all the rockers

Message: Greg,
Look at the conditions the truck was run under to have those problems... If you run yours like that, yeah, you'll probably have the same problems (if you live through it).

Message: Larry:
sounds like you came out alright. years ago I bought a used 57 ford and someone had forgoten to torque the mains correctly and the two center caps fell down in the oil pan and the crankshat broke and split the block in half when I was 80 miles from home. It was an expensive trip home on the back of a wrecker.

Message: Larry, It sounds like you made a nice recovery from your dilemma.
I don't mean to poke fun at you situation, but this wild idea came to me. You could start a band and call it "Larry and the Gear Heads". The title of your first hit could be "I blew the Rocker on my Stocker".

Message: Larry, need any assistance with getting those taken care of? Let me know.
(FYI-- I pump the lifters up by cranking the motor-- no plugs, fuel pump relay pulled)--- then go zero, and 3/4 turn... No problems at all.
