I was on the road cruisin and my friend from school decides to puul up to me at the stop light....he is a huge ricer fan and has the beer can muffler and lil wing....anywayz my friend next to me says to him he has no chance...BTW it is a 5 speed...and we go at the light...coming out of the hole my tire couldnt grip the pavement for anything but neither did his when doing a 3500 r.p.m. launch and I jumped on him out of the hole about a 3/4 of truck length.....and by the time we got to 65 he was at my door and closing rather quickley...but we stopped at 70...seeing that I still had a nose in front of him and he said he won...well eventually maybe...but anywayz....does anyone know of how much h.p. they have and torque...cause I thought I would blow him to pieces.....still damn good race!

Where I come from it is called a fart can muffler because it kinda sounds like someone farting. What kind of noise does a beer can make? Just roll that around in your head a bit. And "If it wasnt for my hourse, I wouldn't of spent that year in college."

my buddy had a 2.0 si s 5 speed, and he couldn't catch me anywhere it was a dog. then he got the same car w/ auto, (some stupid button to shift from 3 to 4 and back) but it was even slower than his old one. I even beat a 94 v-tec it had the h22 motor with all sorts of upgrades, and he barely beat me. 15.1 to 15.3 that was at the track. so if you think a stock lude can take your truck, you are a bad driver

Yes guys, I did see this race. I am his friend, and I'm gonna say that Chris (Prelude) has already blown 2 engines up in that car. It's not that he's a bad driver, let's just say he's got a leadfoot. They both peeled off on the line and Mike got the holeshot on Chris and barely pulled away. Chris finally stopped peeling out and started to close in on him in 3rd gear. I will say this biatch was closing in at about 70 and finally backed off. It was all in all a good race.

My buddy is another one of those people that likes to put big fartcans and wings on his car. Anyway, with a header, exhaust and intake his best 1/4 mile was 16.32@???. What year is your truck?

He's got a 1994 Dakota. It's got a flowmaster 40 series on it with a modified catalytic converter, Holley V8 TB, K&N filter, soon to get some new gears also.

I agree the guys above. I doubt that with at least a fair driver a Prelude would have any problem beating most any truck. I owned an '81 Prelude from showroom to graveyard It had a 91hp 1.8 liter w/5 speed manual. With a full tank of gas it was under 1800#. It was damn fast. Man I miss that car...

BTW. Zach,

I've been wondering for a while, and since you have a friend with one of them buzzers maybe you can get him to explain to us the purpose of that big ol wing on the back. I mean if going fast is the objective one would want to reduce drag not increase it.

haha, me and all of my friends have been wondering the same thing 2003dakQC. I guess I have never really asked him stright up why he has it, but I notice whenever he se's some car with an aftermarket wing on his, he makes comments about its looks and such. So my guess is that he likes it for looks. If you ever decide to eat food outside though, the wing makes an excellent tray for food, no joke.

Zach, he always makes the excuse of "It aerodynamically helps me out and gives me downforce." I was like, downforce doesn't matter unless you're wanting to make a baby-like 2.0 SI go 200+ mph (and I seriously doubt that's gonna happen.)

Well its a relatively new engine and it has valve stem seal problems so it smokes a little....2003DAKQC this is not joke I beat him and if we would have hit 75 he would have passed me no joke.....what i dont understand is why you can't believe me...I guess i will have to camera it for you and have my friend sit with the driver of the prelude and record the race....I dont know about you but i did beat him and I did hear that he shifted well each and every time

I dont think the plastic wings would stay on any car at 200. Hopefully the "ricer" phase will be gone soon.

I like this thread. It reminds me of the good old days. I'm an old fart now. But, back in 1994 I ran a Prelude 4 times in a row, red-light to red-light and beat him all 4 times. I had a 93Dak 5.2L. He had a brand new 94 Prelude. I got the jump on him the first 2 runs because I seriously thought he would kick my ass. The 3rd and 4th runs I let him jump in front of me and I still beat him. I'm sure he would have caught me at the end of a 1/4. Maybe not. Where we were running the lights were about a 1/4 mile apart. He would let out of it at about 70mph. If we had a 1/2 mile stretch to run them I'm sure he would have one. Then again, maybe not. 94 preludes only had about 170hp and that HP was very peaky. My 93 had an underated 230HP. The 94 Prelude weighed over 2900lbs. My Dak weighed over 3600. Do the math. The 94 Honda had 1 HP for every 17lbs. The 93 Dak 5.2 had 1 HP for every 15.7 lbs. Numbers don't lie.

We all know that the numbers won't lie but look at what you're racing him in. There's a difference between a 2.0L SI I-4 and a 5.2L V-8. If you really don't believe me, go get yourself a 3.9L V-6 and race this same Prelude and you'll see that a 5-spd Prelude is quite fast.
