Subject: What Air setup to run? IP: Logged
Message: Just getting done with my modified TB, and got a new cowl hood. I guess it's time to do something about the air coming in it. What's some good ideas about my air intake? Was thinking round K&N with X-Stream top. But 11" or 14"? Use a drop base or regular?

Message: If its a 92 to 96 you can use the reg 14"
97 and up it will hit the firewall and you would
need to go with the 11"
Here's a pic of one on my truck

Message: looks good. Is it with a drop base? I guess I'll be with the 11". Is that the best setup using the cowl hood?

Message: The cowl hood should be loverd to blow down the
top and it will work great
Thats a reg base K&N FIPK for 92 to 96
I am running a hood scoop that blows right down
its throut
I don't know what could be better, even checked it
with a digital thermo taped to the air cleaner
and man at 40 the temp starts to drop over 60 its
outside air temp so I know it works good

Message: Larry, don't mean to harm disregard or intrude, but wouldn't that put rain and water straight into the intake as well??? I know the K&N doesn't shield water because I had one and wasn't satisfied at all with it. No matter how much oil it would always let fine fine dust through along with moisture, so I replaced it with my current cold air intake, not as cold as yours though :)) I would however like to some day get a shaker hood for it that feeds air back up through the hood and into the filter that way. No time soon of course.

Message: Greg, he closes the hood when he drives...
lol
there is not a good chance of rain getting to that filter form the outside of his truck... if it were to get there... it wouldnt be enough to puddle on his filter.
My favorite for a genIII 3.9 was the Mopar FIPK which now you can only get in a K&N version.
This is another good one but it doesnt get the gas mileage that the FIPK gets. It's the Edelbrock ProFlo... doesnt look as good on a V6 though.

Message: I said that because he's got that hood scoop force feeding that big air filter :)) While driving in the rain would the rain not go down through the scoop just like the air straight to that filter???
Oh and Gen111, that's one seet looking engine bay ; ))

Message: No when it rains I have some scoop plugs I use
and than just breath inside air
I have driven in some prety hard rain without the
plugs in and all I got was a few little puddles
on top but never effected anything, light rain
don't bother me but a major down poor I put the
plugs in
Looking good Intense
