Subject: Valve interference IP: Logged
Message: With the 1.6 factory setup the engine is a non-interference. But if I had the 1.7 roller rockers installed would the piston still clear the valves if the timing chain were to ever break. Would it still be a interference free engine?

Message: I have 184,000 miles on my truck, always has had Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic in it, runs great. Will the motor handle the 1.7 rollers too? Please answer the question from the origional post too. Thanks for everyone's help.

Message: The 1.7's only increase the lift aprox .030 if
your chain goes and jumps a few teeth your still
ok
I have never seen any bend valves when the chain
let go.
stock cam is 250/264 with a .432 lift the 1.7's
also give you about 4 degrees duration so it would
see a cam looking like 254/268 .460
There are people running the KRC cams at .500 lift
and all stock components and they run just fine so
you are a long way off from any clearance probs by
just adding the roller rockers

Message: Will the motor be able to handle the added horsepower with this many miles, remember the oil has been changed every 3,000 miles with Modil 1. New timing chain and tensioner, mopar high flow oil pump, runs great. What is your opinion larry on this?

Message: Yes it will handle it even with that many miles,
You are only increasing the lift by .027 aprox
.030 and it will not effect anything you will
notice the increse in power from 1800 rpm up and
also get more low end torque and gas mileage.
I have installed them in many trucks with over
100,000 miles and a few of these trucks have over
200,000 on them now and still running strong.
These are some tuff little motors and with good
maintainance I have seen them with way over
200,000, I know 1 guy with 350,000 on his, I just
put a second timing chain in about 6 months ago
and he also has the 1.7's, preventive maintainance
it was still running good when I did both chains
he just worries a lot
If they can handle a 100 shot of nitrious the
1.7's don't even come close to that
Go For It youw will not regret it and love the
extra power

Message: I plan on it now, the 1.7's are going to go on, I worry alot too, but those 3.9's make alot of weird noises, sounds like the motor is trying to wear itself away, like metal on metal contact but they tell me at Chrysler it is normal, I plan on a V8 Throttle body, but the guys said at Midwest Performance in Cary that a Mod V6 throttle body would be better because the V8 would flow to much air. I want to top it off with the K&N cold air intake. I have new brass cap and rotor, factory rated champion plugs. I am thinking about getting taylor wires, but then I already have a good Napa set sitting here. I don't know if they taylor's will make that much of a difference. Anything else I should know? Thanks in advance Larry.
