Subject: About 1.7 RR'S IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if the 1.7 Roller Rockers would ever interfer with the top of the piston if the timing chain were to ever break? Will there be any interferance, bent valves? Do I have anything to worry about?

Message: Is it safe to use the stock valve covers with the 1.7 Roller Rockers, will there be enough room for proper lubrication? Thanks for anyone's input.

Message: If you do a search you'll see you need to remove
the baffles in the valve covers for clearance. I've heard someone was going to make some custom valve covers for us v6 guys but it has yet to happen. I'd like to see some pictures on what's involved with that.

Message: From what I've read the roller rockers reduce friction and wear over the stamped steel? rockers that come stock. It also frees up ponies.

Message: they dont wear down your camshaft... but can wear out your valve springs in a higher revving motor.
a roller lifter doesnt wear down a camshaft like a flat tappet.
I wouldnt even worry about your valve springs wearing out if you keep it under the stock rev limiter.

Message: In a much earlier post on the 1.7 roller rockers, when Bernd was active on this board, he suggested using 2 layers of valve cover gaskets. This would help with the clearance issue.
IntenseDak39, Have seen or talked to Bernd lately? Just wonder how he's doing these days.

Message: Larry and others have given easy instructions on how to knock down your stock baffles and it works well with the 1.7 rr. I ran my stock valve covers for a while with no problems then I got a set of powder coated Valve covers with Sam's baffles welded in from Socaldakota.com they work just as well as the stock but look nicer and are easier to keep clean.
The Crower 1.7's are a high quality mod and they will out last your truck.

He got me on a parts trade, I sent him some parts
but he never held up his end of the deal.
It was not losing the money but the point of it
all.
I used to correspond a lot with him before all the
trouble started.
Mikes94Dakota
were do you come up with this stuff, I have customer
trucks that I installed the 1'7's on that have over 100,000
miles on the rockers and still running perfict and they
probably will outlast the motors

Message: Has anyone installed Crower 68405 valve springs? Is there anything special about installing the inner valve spring. The kit included a spring cup, but that raises the inner and outer spring up the distance of the factory spring step. It just doesn't look like something is right. If it's wrong, valves may try to exit through the oil pan. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Message: Why would you want less air going in and more going out??? Unless your thinking on the lines of the new Ford engines, which is oposite to what you are wanting??? With two intake and one exhaust... I would personally have to hear from experiances or see some dyno's before even thinking about something like that... Of course the fords also have one big exhaust valve and two smaller intake valves which will make up for some of the differences... Don't know... Anybody else have some thoughts and wouldn't you have to order two seperate rr's kits for this???

1.7 intake and 1.6 exh. the exhaust on a stock
cam already has 14 degree's more duration than
intake
250/264 .432 lift and a 32 degree overlap it makes
no sense to me and I have been building hi perf
motors for over 30 years
