Subject: 46mm Throttle plates IP: Logged
Message: Anybody know where I can find 46mm plates. I went to the dodge place, and all they offer is whole TB's. I was going to bore out my TB, but need bigger flappers. Also, are the sides flat, or do they have angle on them. Anybody with info, would be helpful. Thanks

Message: I just figured out how i'm gonna make my flappers. It's doing good so far, when this project gets done, I will take some pics of it. The only other thing I was wondering about, the bearings in each end that turn with the shaft, when, the holes are bored out, it looks like it will hit them. If you know what to do, (get new ones, or cut 'em) let me know.

Message: well, if anybody else was wondering about the bearings, it doesn't matter. I bored one hole today to exactly 46mm, the last pass, it just barely snibbed the end, but still works fine.

Message: Fastman Dan dose it all the time he sells the 46mm
bodies all they are is a modified stock body
I had one before I went to the 48 F&B and they are
nice, run very well good low end gains that you
will notice as soon as you bolt it on.
But please there are called throttle plates or
butterflys not flapers
Flapers are what they called whores in the roaring
20's LOL

Message: thanks for the info. I didn't really know all the correct terms though. I do have one more question. When I milled the top, I put the die grinder and buffing wheel on it. So it's like chrome now. A guy told me not to do that on the bores, he said that the finish needs to be kinda rough for the air/fuel to mix good. I thought he was just full of it, but I don't know. Would it be better just smooth, or like polished finish?

Message: Well just one thing,
There is no fuel there just air the fuel is shot
in by the injectors LOL
A smother finish will flow more air, rough creates
turbulence

Message: Well that's what I thought too. He saw the two fittings for hoses, I think for the sensor. I guess he thought it was a fuel line. If that's how it is then, when I get done it's gonna be like Toby Kieth said "CHROME" I guess you can tell I don't know all that much about this huh? I know how to run machinery, I saw a modifed V6 TB for $150 plus exchange, and I knew I could do it all for free. But, when I get done with mine, and post pics, maybe a few people will like me to do thiers. Hey Larry, check out my post about valve cover vents, let me know. Thanks

Message: Larry and others who read this; I just changed out the v8 TB for a Fastman. When I first put it not it didn't show a much gain even after letting the computer learn the new TB. I then checked the TPS setting with my digital volt meter .5 volts. So I modded the TPS and set it for the highest setting I get about .73 volts, after the computer learned the new settings. I also insulated my "cold air intake" with duct insulation and some metal duct tape wrap. I have one of the small battery operated temperature probes with a 10 foot wire inserted in the airtake. I have another one run out to the grill, so I can continuously monitor outside air temperature, I also completely removed the flap on the passenger side of the front grill. The differential air temp between outside air and air intake in much less than it was. I was amazed at how much more responsive the truck is. I also took the Gtech meter and made 6 runs before and after the fastman install. The runs after were made after the computer learned the new settings approx. 175 miles. The temperature for the before and after runs were 5 degrees apart (45 and 40). The fastman had more low end torque and about 2.5 hp more on average than the v8 TB. I was very careful to use the same setting's when calibrating the Gtech during the before and after runs. I know the GTECH is not as accurate as a dyno, but since I used the same device before and after, I believe the real world gains are accurate.

Message: These motors love cold air the colder the better
That is what I have tried to explain a 100 times
the V8 swap is fine but the low end will remain
the same and on some trucks will lose a little
with either the fastman or F&B there are also low
end gains
setting your TPS voltage higer will give you
better throttle response and help shifting and
trans reaction time on the lockup and O/D the
lower gears are controled mainly by the cable
with a higher voltage you don't need to push
the gas as much to bring it out of lock up O/D
or to drop into 3rd gear like they are set from
the factory when you pull out to pass at highway
speeds you need to tromp it to the floor to get
it to down shift.
I am running .9 TPS volts and at crusing 55 60 all
I need to do is hit it 1/4 half throttle and it will
downshift
You will reach a threshold on the voltage were it
will not idle down you need to stay just below
that and your trans will work great
Reading a tech article on the dodge rams one day
and they were taking them up to 1.2 volts on the
pre OBD 2 setups and said the transmissions worked
a lot better, I have gone upto 1.1 on my 95 with
no idle probs but all I had to do was touch the
gas and it would react and downshift so I droped
back to .9 now 1/4 1/2 while crusing it will drop
down, good for passing without having to tromp it
to the floor to get some reaction.
Knowing this a guy can tweak his trans to work
just the way he wants it, lower gears cable,
lockup and od TPS voltage and load MAP sensor

Message: Larry, I might have to try another TPS. The highest I could get out of the installed one is .73 volts. I left the voltmeter plugged in all the time I messed with it. I tweaked it back and forth to limit both ways. I gonna have to monitor my mileage also. After the cold air "wrap" and resetting the TPS, my mileage has gone up. An average of 16 for this last tankful.
Slightly off subject, I know in a different post, you mentioned that your "head" guy told you that the heads he did for for you would give you 10 to 15 ponies more than the heads that KRC did for you you. My question is what is he doing differently than KRC. If you would rather discuss this one offline, email me at wadak1234@yahoo.com or post here your choice.
Thanks Wadak
