I have a 92 3.9 Dak. i got in it the other night and when i turned the key to the run position i had nothing. not a bit of juice to anything (headlights, domelight, etc.). i have discovered that if i let it sit a while i have juice agian. but once i try to start it (run position) i have no juice agian. sometimes i get as much as one click out of the starter before everything goes. my grounds are good and battery is too. i was woundering if this could be a bad connection to the starter causing this. thanks.

Are you sure the battery is good...
Did you do a "load" test or just read the volts?
a battery can have a bad cell but still show full volts until a load is applied...

To me it sounds like a bad battery..
Maintenance free battery or not..you can check specific gravity in the cells..Need a battery hydrometer..a bad cell will be very evident

Another way to check you battery is to take a voltmeter with the cell's off and go cell to cell putting the probes directly in the electrolyte. If you have a bad cell, it will certainly show up, cell to cell about 2volts, you may end up with 1 or 2 that read close to zero. All it takes is one cell bad cell to kill a battery. By the way when done with the voltmeter leads run them under water for alittle while to get the acid off.

Another way to check your battery as Tazzy indicated, is to load test it. Put a voltmeter across the battery and crank the engine. The volt meter level will drop in voltage with the load test. I personally prefer a analog meter for this check, because I like to see the needle "kick" under load. If the battery voltage drops below 9.6 volts under load it's time to replace the battery. Here's why:

Fully Charged battery : 13.5 volts x .707=9.5 volts.

The .707 value defines the half power point on your battery in terms of voltage under load.

Another thing to remember as the temperature drops so does battery efficiency. A fully charged battery at 70 degress drops to about 60% efficiency below 32 degrees. The colder it is the less efficent your battery is.

Put a voltmeter on the batt watch it and have
someone hit the key and watch the volts

It sounds like a bad connection or the batt

I had the battery checked, its ok, no problems with it. but im still having the same problem of losing all electrical power for about 15 to 20 minutes after i turn the ignition key to run. there is still juice to the alternator and starter, but its almost like something may not be grounded or something. any more advice would be appreciated. thanks.

Start checking all the main connections especialy
the grounds.

There are a lot of them just under the hood there
are like 5 diff points the system is grounded
