I am going to tear into it as soon as I get off
the internet.

Its a weird sound I have never ran across before
almost sounds like an exhaust leak but canot
locate any.

Going to block the EGR tube and see if that might
be the culprit, if not dist is coming out.

This may be a new one for all but I rev this motor
to 5000 a lot so somethig may be going on that
most would never run into.

Its a fast clicking like sound like an exh tic

Humm I will find it.

Noise has been know to travel down the cam, etc to the distributor. Things like the timing chain (shyster) and oil pumps can cause noise that is internal and loudest at the distributor because it is attached and external.

Have you tried using the screw driver test on the running engine to pin point the sound?

Good luck whith it.

Hi Larry, just a couple of quick thoughts. Look for a loose contact on the rotor. If the rivet is loosening up check the intermediate shaft and camshaft gear. Inside the distributor look for loose plastic rivets holding the reluctor/interuptor unit on the plastic base, possibly allowing it to strike the tab on the pick up plate. A quick fix is to soldering pen melt or drill and pop rivet it back. Unfortunately Chrysler does not sell just this part you have to purchase a distributor. Just some guesses...

I found the noise LOL LOL

Man-O-Man if that don't frost the old rocker I
don't know what would.

I finally took a water hose and sprayed it down
where the 3 tubes come together on the JBA
headers and watched the water spit out right
between the tubes.

These headers are like 7 years old and one of
the welds let lose, had Jason take the header
off and welded the hole shut between the tubes

The chain and tensioner in this motor only have
a little over 11,000 miles on them.

Just a royal pain in the A$$ to find

This probably is no help, but when I pulled the vac. hose off my MAP sensor, it made a weird clicking noise that sounded like it was coming from back of engine & distributor area.

Diane,

Just monitored all the sensors were ok,

Why did you pull the map line off if I may ask

Did you get your new o2 installed and did it help
with the idle prob, the o2 is not read by the
comp untill closed loop is reached, 170 degrees
the comp is looking for before switching over than
the fuel is controled by the o2

Pulled line for the hell of it when I was checking for vac. leaks on Sunday. Thought possibly maybe yours could have come loose or something, mine was really loose and about ready to fall off at the other end, though.
No, O2's not in yet. Only been around 20 degees outside and since it's going to be a pain to get in there, waiting for it to warm up just a bit. I hate to burn kerocene to warm the garage, it gives me terrible headaches. Did quickly put the new distributor in Sun eve. It purred like a kitten, even thought we hadn't stuck a timing light on it yet. Donnie(my better half) can't find his timing light so I'm borrowing one tomorrow evening, and temp is suppose to be around 40 tomorrow so hopefully I'll get the O2 in.
I hope you figure out your problem without to much hassle.

All is well now.

You see I have degenrative arthritis and can no
longer do any heavy work just use my head these
days

I have 3 colasped disk in my lower back and 2
between my sholder blades and at times is very
painfull.

So I mostly wonder around walking short distances
with a cane and just keep everyone in line just
can't do much these days

But I cant just sit around or I would go crazy
so I do what I can very little and let the rest of

Damn, I hate to hear that, Larry. I'm glad you seem to still sound like a happy person, dispite your health problems. It's great that you don't seem to let it get you down and stay busy. Headwork is the hard part you know, just about anyone can turn a wrench if told what to do. There's a lot of knowledge here on this site and a lot of great people, but your the top guru and this site sure wouldn't be what it is without you. I'm really glad you spend so much time here and glad you've found a way to stay busy by helping us all here and teaching us too.

I'm really glad you figured the problem out so fast. I knew you would, by what little I know about you. You could be makin a living just off your knowledge on the net, you know.

Later, Diane

Ya I don't let it get me down,

It all happend about 3 years ago before that still
felt like I was 20.

My Doc said its just from so many years of pushing
myself so hard just wore myself out.

I know some people that end up like that get very
bitter but I don't know why maybe just depresion
but that's more a mind thing.

Just a fact of getting old, the mind says yes but
the body says no LOL

Other than that am in perfict health and plan to
be around another 20 years my blood presure is
still 130 over 80 same as it was when I was 18
I did lose 1" in height now only 5-10" and 180
heart beat at rest 60 per min so I will be around
for years to come.

Sill love to play with my trucks and cars as always

That will never change

Larry, You sound like a great person with a great outlook on life! I'd be willing to bet your one of those type of people others like to be around. Am I right or wrong?

Bad backs have a way of taking height away along with getting older. LOL I have a bad back & my neck is screwed up from when I worked at the Chrysler/St.Louis plant in my early 20's. Started playing roller hockey and it helped strengthen my back up, but it screwed up my knees, I was a goalie. In the word's of Gilda Radner...Just goes to show, if it's not one thing, it's another! LOL. I quit playing 3 1/2 years ago and my back is getting weak again. Doing construction work(building houses) is really hard on the body, so now I blame it on that, mostly just drive a dump truck now. It's great your so heart healthy, that's really the most important thing. If I'd just quit smoking, that would be a great health benefit for me. For now I just try to stay active. We have horses on 55 acres that we're going to build on, motorcycles, and our 4x4's, so there's lots to do, when there is ever any time.

Larry, I guess you could say you exhaust tick was all wet!(sick Washingto state humor, since it rains so much here).

Diane, Consider yourself lucky, I tell ya sometimes when I get stuck in the traffic around the Puget Sound Area. I get the urge to look for property in the wide open spaces of Wyoming, Colorado or maybe New Mexico. Then traffic starts moving and I snap back to reality. Living in an area like the Puget Sound Area has a lot of benefits. At the same time it has a lot of draw backs, lots of people, lots of traffic and lots of new apartments and homes going in. I live in an area of King County Washington that use to be considered rural, but not anymore. The urban sprawl has caught up to us and now I live in the city limits of Kent, Wa. I just about have my house paid off and I could retire in a few years. I been thinking long and hard about selling out and moving futher out, but then I would have to deal with all the traffic and longer commute times. I don't mind driving as long as traffic is moving. I hate traffic jams.

Larry, I completely glossed over the fact that you have arthritis, I tore the cartlidge out of both knees in High School during sports events. I had to have surgery on those knees, this was before they came up with the orthroscopic surgery. At the time that opened the knee and took all the cartlidge out. This cold damp Washington weather is great for ducks and slugs, but it plays hell with my knees. I been taking the Glucosamine and Chondrotin Supplement and it helps me alot. IF I forget to take it my knees sure remind me. Moer people I ahve talked seem to start falling apart in their 40's.
