Subject: LARRY/SOMEONE HELP! IP: Logged
Message: Alright, I've put 218 miles on my rebuilt V6. Some of you were kind enough to lend me advice when needed. Now I fear I have a serious problem. By my gauge, I lose all my oil pressure, and my little idiot oil light comes on. I check the oil and it is full. I noticed tonight on my way home If I keep it below 2k, and when the oil light comes on and I start losing pressure, if I let my foot off the gas, everything goes back to normal.
So I keep a steady speed at 1500rpm, oil light comes on and what not. Let foot off the gas, it goes away. Try a lower rpm 1250, keep it there for about a mile and the oil light and stuff comes back on. As long as the motor is ran under 2k rpm, I can let my foot off the gas and it all goes away. But when I keep it at a steady rpm, say 1500 for about a mile it comes on and as soon as it hits 1500 again the oil light comes on and I lose pressure.
I've never floored the truck yet. Most its gotton is half throttle. What could be the problem? The senor? The other problem, one lifter will not oil up, and it likes to tick when started, but only for a max of 5 seconds. Tonight while driving it started ticking, would stop and come back when it felt like it. Its only one lifter also, its tight and all that. I noticed it was oiling alot slower then rest of them. I've ran wire, and blew air there the pushrod 2 times. So I know its clean, what else could be the problem?
Thank you in advance for your advice and taking the time to help.

Message: One thing it may be is that something is plugging the oil return path to the oil pan from the heads. As the engine pumps oil it fills the heads below the valve covers and then the oil pressure drops. You slow the engine down, the amount of oil going threw the engine slows allowing the oil time to return to the pan to build the oil pressure back up. Take the valve covers off and make sure the oil return holes are clear. It could also be in the lifter galley under the instake but that probably is less likely. Did someone leave a rag in there? I have seen this before. Be careful or you may ruin your new motor.
Hope this helps.

Message: Cleaned the pickup, and its a brandnew pump. We rebuilt the motor, orginal block. My father put the pump in, and pick up and said its tight and in the right spot. Could it be the dist. not turning the oil pump? All cam bearings are in right. If you need anymore info just tell me.

Message: Did you also plastiguage all the rods and mains.
Even if you had a cam hole blocked it should not
be doing what it is doing
It almost sounds like the gaskit was not put on
with the pump or it lose.
No the gear and drive rod are below the dist, the
dist just drops in a rect hole on top.
You need to pull the pan and see whats going on
there is something not right there or your new
pump is bad.
This is a strage problem

Message: Put some teflon tape on the pickup tube but stay
2 threads back so it does not get into the system
it may be sucking some air and cavitating the oil
pump

Message: Sorry to bother you guys. But you know the bolts are the simple part. It's getting the oil pan out, that's what I meant, "Duh?" I have already taken the mounts loose and used my engine lift to lift the motor but (and I haven't spent hours on it yet-- didn't want to tear something up) still have an inch or so to clear the converter housing but am already hitting the firewall with the top of the motor. Am I lifting too High?? I know you guys can give me a few hints here even if I am a pain in the azz.
P.S I'm not an expert in mechanics but I do know some other stuff, been in the Lawn and Landscape and tree business for over 25 years.
Have a good one, Kurt
