Message: The 30mpg range is what I'm shooting for!!! I said I only get 25-28 mpg on the highway currently... I'm also willing to bet that most people on here don't have 321 rearends along with the 5 speed... My truck only holds "I think 18 gallons" My truck only had an option to hold 22 gallons at most, so that will subtract weight... Yours is also crew cab "extra weight" and has 355 rearend and is also an auto "lower geared"... I think your doing real good to get what your getting... I've heard that most auto's only get around 15mpg "if their lucky"... My truck is regular cab, 5speed, two wheel drive, with syn in everything, so I've got better lube and less friction along with less weight...
Just to fill some of yall in on how high geared my truck is, it will do 30mph "1st", 55mph "2nd", 75mph "3rd" and I haven't maxed out in 4th or 5th so I don't know about them... Heck my friends Mach 1 would only do around 35mph to 40mph in 1st and that was at higher rpm's than mine was "5500 my max rev"...
I'm not saying that people on here don't know how to drive, but my dad always talt me inorder to get best fuel milleage you must go in the highest gear possible as long as your engine isn't struggling... That means that I drive around at 1000 rpm's in 5th gear most of the time while just going to town and what not... At 2000 rpm's in 5th I'm doing 65mph then at 2050 rpm's I'll be doing 70mph... That's how high geared my truck is... When I hit the highway I stay in 5th gear unless hitting a steep hill, then 4th gear... I'm also very light on the foot "barely touching accelerator" unless I'm in a hurry or trying out new mod... These are all combo's I use to get better mpg... Heck my dad got 32mpg out of his 2wheel drive, reg cab, 5speed, Nissan 4 banger that he had for years...
I never said that I knew more than people like Larry or Sam or any of the more wised to the subject... I just state my opinion and experiance with things that so many are determined to bash... Infact I've asked many of a people on here for advice towards certain things, just look up above and you'll see that I am going to port match my new TB to the intake and asked for best size... I also asked for info on best roller rockers for long term... I don't claim to know all nor will I ever, because there will always be someone out there smarter than you... No matter how smart you are on a subject...

Message: Thank you Larry :)) So what size do you think I should port match my intake to??? I was leaning toward dual 53 or 54mm's... That way I won't have any restrictions...
The port, polish, port and polish matching of intake and exhaust "if don't go with headers", .015" head shave ".015" longer pushrod height" 1.7 roller rockers, should all help to really take advantage of the TB right...
I'm not doing a cam switch though... I don't see the need for spending more $$$, because this will all set me back big time... Will I regret this???
How hard would it be to make my own headers... I've been welding for years and think myself to be fairly good at it, just don't know if I want to tackle something like this...
So hot air improves fuel milleage??? I didn't know that one... You don't think that my cold air intake is sucking in hot air from radiator do you??? I put the air filter to where it is right over coil nearly, but have hole cut out to where air blows right back through into it from the grille "previous mod to old intake"...
Thanks Again,
Greg

Message: Just thought I would get back to the original subject here... www.hughesengines.com has modded TB "48% more airflow effiency" is saling for $250.00 new or I'm sure old modded and then if you send them back your old one they will allow you $125.00 credit or return of cash or something like that, so your getting modded TB for $125.00... Not bad at all... Or you can send them your old one pay $165.00 and they'll modify yours for you... Not sure what the differance or gain over just buying and sending them your old one would be here???
This is about the cheapest and best route I've seen for modded V6 TB's if you don't want to port match your intake like I'm going to do for my $162.00 Holley Performance dual 52mm bores TB... Infact someone else on here might have pointed this out for an option on TB's but I wasn't paying much attention to that one... So if you don't want to alter intake manifold this might be a good one to look into anyhow...
Well anyway...

Message: Greg:
I think it was $165 to mod your TB. ADD an additional $250 for a new TB ( 165+250 ). Then if you sent them back your old TB, they give you $125 credit.
I could be wrong, but thats how I read it.

Message: Well then, that does make more since now doesn't it :)) That's why it didn't make much since to me as far as the prices goes... Guess I just need to start reading a little better and getting my own facts straight huh...

Message: Let's see: regular cab, 5 speed, 3.21 diff, modded V6. Sounds like the ultimate mpg-making Dak to me.

Message: Allright, I just got a new figure with the new TB ---
172.1 miles / 7.401 gals = 23.25361438 and this is after letting it idle for 30mins this morning along with letting it idle at the store last night for 5 mins and just driving from house to shed and idling there a couple of times, so my truck was burning about 1/2 gal of gas idling an hour so I'll be generous and leave out all of the other drive abouts and idles and just use this mornings, so 7.401 - .401 "not even 1/2 gallons of gas" and then 172.1 miles / 7 gals = 24.58571429, so figure I'm getting around 25mpg just driving around now... Haven't done the highway mpg yet and probably won't until I drive to Asheville to have my truck dynoed for before and after numbers for my next mods :)) BUT, I'm expecting the 30+mpg range now... Hey from what Larry said about his 4x4 getting as good as it does I almost feel bad for only getting what I do...
