Message: I'm going to ask a what might seem to be a really dumb question, but here goes. Does anyone know or have they tried to substitute a 1998 or newer computer for a 1997 dakota v6. I understand that the superchips will on work on the 1998 or newer trucks. It will not work on the 97 and some of the earlier 98's. I knw there will be people out there who will flame this post and call ne a dumb ass or something else. But i would really like to know!!!!!

Message: Another option that will be available later this winter will be a fully programmable interceptor type computer that will allow for full fuel mapping and timing curves. It is supposed to be for about $500-600, and you will need a laptop to do the job. It is good for those of us who are constantly making changes/upgrades. Go to www.hughesengines.com for more info.

Message: what's the general consensus on this product? is it worth the extra cash?
It says 10% hp, so does that mean I could see a definite 17.5 hp gain at the rear wheels? That's going on stock Hp numbers too.
Has any one used this tuner before?what's the general consensus on this product? is it worth the extra cash?

Message: those in my eyes are not worth the money. all they really do is change the crank position sensor a little, which can also be done with a simple mod and about an hour or so. they also change your IAT a little which can be done with an even simpler mod. in hardware, they both might cost 20 max, thats a lot better than even the cheapest chip. Message: Its not as simple as that. They have come up with a tuned set of codes that results in the highest HP gain for 91+octane for performance. Then they came up with the codes to give you the best results while towing. THEN they came up with a set of codes to give you the best performance with 87 octane. These are all done using a Dyno to acheve the best senerio tuning.
Now tell me how to do all this with a couple of resisters? It cant be done. Ever watch 2 guys garage on Horsepower TV? They thought it was worth the $400 price tag, and they are a couple of gear heads. And they dont garauntee 10%, its "Up to 10%" This will very amoung different vehicles.
Here is a Dyno from a guy with a Dak V6, showing both before and after he programmed:
As you can see, the real HP at the rear wheels on his truck was about 115hp at 4000rpm running 87octane. After a superchip program and 91octane its about 128hp at 4000rpm. Thats more than 10% gain. Look at the torque, not a bad increase either.
You prove to me you can do that with a couple resisters, and I'll buy it.

Also, is it a chip or a tuner?

Message: Its a tuner. It actually flashes your pcm, its not like a jet chip that just attaches to your pcm. It reprograms your fuel and ignition curves, changes the shift points, and raises the speed limiter and rev limiter. If I keep the pedal on the floor, my auto will shift at 5000 rpms now, instead of 4300-4500 like before. You can also calibrate your speedo for tire size (I run 32" tires, so I wanted this feature.)
I have one on my 2000 v-6 4x4. It is the single best improvement I have made. I haven't dyno'ed it, but the seat-of-the-pants gain is very noticeable. It also fixed a bad hesitation problem I have always had, and it fixed my reverse to drive stall that I have always had.
I feel it was definitely worth the $$. I also have a flowmetrics TB, JBA headers, Gibson cat-back, and Volant CAI. I can't speak for how well the tuner works on a V-8, but on my 3.9 I am very happy.

Message: sicminds...no ones going to twist your arm on this. My responce was just to rebut what Steve said. Lets say Steve is correct. How many hours will it take to get it "just right"? For $279, I am going to plug it in and be done in 10-15 mins. At any time, I can change the program for different driving needs ( towing ), and still have a code reader to boot ( $100 value ). In todays world, you pay for convenience, but I think this is more than just a conveniece.
I found a dealer to give a great buy and I'm passing it along to others. We have 7 orders now, so I'm happy.

Message: I have this tuner and back it 100%. It is worth the money. Great buy at this price. I just recently had to put mine back to stock programming for a smog check and man what a difference, very noticable again, the change in shifting for auto is the best next to the noticable HP increase. Dont knock it until you try it and if the $$$ is the problem then live with out knowing. Running 33's this helped the kicking back and forth from Overdrive allot.

Nope, doesnt work like that...you download the new parameters into your computer, whuch inturn, uploads the stock settings. this prevents it from being used on more than one truck at one time, to keep us from buying one, the selling it to 10 friends and ripping the company out of profits. too bad i wont have my bonus cheque until mid feb...i'd be allllll over one of these
