so why could you not take the snorkel off with a normal paper filter? does it allow water to get in if the snorkel is removed?

You can take it off either way, and I would b/c it will let more air in. You would be better off getting the K/N though too just to flow even more air---unless you are going to make your own air intake. I wouldn't worry about water getting in

i didn't see a place for water to get in there but i wanted to check and make sure before i did it.
will the air still be cold though? cause i know the little snorkel lead to the fender for the cooler air
