Eva,

There is a very well known problem that I think
you should check

On your 92 under the hood drivers side there is
a power distribution box, about a foot back in
the wire harness there is a red wire that connects
to 3 feeder wires, fuel, ign and comp power
feeder.

You need to untape the wire harness and find this
connection, remove the connector and solder the wires
together

After reading the posts and seeing all you have
done this is a very good possibility that the connection
is beginning to lose connection and acting up randomly
as your prob is described, check that out and let me
know what you find there.

I have seen a dozen or more trucks this has happened
to including my own 95 3.9 but mine just quit altogether
some will do strange things and it may be the problem

WADAK,
Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner. I went back to posting on Eva's, as I was just hoping to get Larry and anyone else interested in helping with our trouble shooting to jump over to Eva's post.

Yes, a lot of the symptoms Eva is having are pretty much the same syptoms as mine. I've put lot's of stuff on that post if you want to put your input in somemore, it would be greatly apprieciated!

Thank so much.

I certainly not the expert Larry is, but I have had experience troubleshooting Daks. Between my son and we have had 2 87's and 2 92's and now I 97 dak. My son's 87 dak had a problem with ruff idle and loss of power and mileage. One thing, I did was actually disconnect the wire from the O2 sensor and start it up. The computer must then use some default setting, I think it may be called limp mode. When I did this the power came back up and mileage dropped even further. I only did this for a short time, the extra fuel could ruin the catalytic converter. When I took it for a short drive, the difference alone in power was enough to convince me that it was the cause of the problem. When we changed it out, it solved the problem. The 87 v6 dak has a carburetor, If I not mistaken the 88 and newer are throttle body fuel injected, but i believe that the response should be the same. I'll tell you I have had a bunch of Dodge Products and when the O2 sensors start acting up, they cause weird problems. If you can afford it, I would change the O2 sensor on principle.

Thanks Wadak!! I totally appreciate you.
I just got back on here and was out messing with the dak. This is strange. YOU MUST HAVE BEEN SENDING ME TELEPATHIC MESSAGES, I'VE BEEN KNOW TO HAVE A STRONG INTUITION, AT TIMES. LOL!!

Anyway, While out there and not finding any vacuum leaks and really not wanting to pull the dist, something told me to disconnected the connector to the O2, and I did. Took it for a spin and it made a definite difference. Had more low end power and didn't die coming to a stop, and idle seemed better too. So, I'm going to pick one up.
I'm hoping that takes care of it completely, but after replacing so many things I'm beginning to wonder if that's the whole problem or not. Larry had told me to replace it, so I was just going to buy one later today.
I still think it's weird that I actually disconnected the O2 & took it for a spin. And yes, mine is TBI'ed.
Also, I don't know how much of the post I wrote on Eva's thread that you have read, but I wrote about putting on a new Flowmaster and not putting a cat back on cause it was almost completely clogged, (didn't want to mess with cleaning it out), and don't have a tailpipe back on yet. I'm waiting till I get back working steady to buy the cat and tail and I want to go to duel's after the muff which we just put back on temporarily but have no leaks.
Do you think I can run without a cat indefinitely without creating problems again? I live in the country, so I'd be legal here without one. Do I actually still need the O2 without a cat. I imagine I would for the comp's sake. What's your thoughts on this?
Thank you, again.

Dianes if you're state requeres an emisiones check to pass the state inspection YES you will need a cat and the 02 sensor as well as all other oem smogg eqiupment if you're state does not do emisions checks install the new 02 sensor clear the computer codes and just gut the cat. But make sure that if you intend on running header pipes that you still have enough back pressure other wise you will burn the exhuast valves and or the seats. One other thing to note some states like N.H. will fail the vehicle if it does not have all the stock emission equipement but they do not require that it has to work it just has to be in place and this only applys to vehicles 10 years or older. Good luck hope this helps you out!

Hi BSAsteve,
Thank you again. Yes, my state requires the emissions, but only in higher populated areas. I live in an area(hicksville)LOL, and don't have to have the emissions to pass inspection, unless I would move or sell the truck I'll be fine.

And yes, I was thinking about headers this spring or summer, so you've answered another important question for me.

But, how do I check to make sure there is enough backpressure?

Thanks a bunch, Diane

I don't know how to calculate it exactly i'm a bit old school so i use my best judgement. If i were you the first thing i would do is look on some other threads and see what some of the other guys have used on thier rigs. A more acurate way to do this would be to contact a reputable custom exhuast shop or a good speed shop armed with all the specs. for you're truck they should be able guide you in the right direction. Keep one thing in mind though if you are planning on doing any heavy mods. to the engine cam, stroker kit, boosting comp. ratios you will NEED to take that into consideration so you don't end up with a set of useless headers. Good luck P.S. try JEGS!!

The above post looks like some people I have blown
away when they were suprized by my sleeper Dak

Diane look at summit they used to make a set of
shorty headers for the pre mag daks that also
included a new bigger Y Pipe cant remember if they
were the summit brand or made by eldibrock

I have installed a few of these and on the TB
injection they made a noticeable differance

Better performance and better gas mileage

I would think that was the face you made at them as you left them! LOL

Here I go again, here's a post I left you last night, that is if you want to read it.

Thanks Larry,
Damn, thats cold. We were having days in the low 20's, then Fri. & Sat. it warmed a bit. Back to the cold today, ice then snow. I think low 20's. 30 will feel warm as hell to you when you get it again, won't it? Stay warm!!
Thanks for the confidence in me on the heater prob. I hope your right. I have a thing for being determined, if you know what I mean, That help's a lot. LOL

I was just at the mrgasket.com as I've aquired some accel 8.8 spiral core plug wires(never used) but they are HEI's.

I know you and a lot of the guys highly recommend the MSD's, which was what I had planned on getting eventually, but "You can't look a gift horse in the mouth", as they say.

Anyway, I'm looking on there to get some straight terminals and boots. I found these: Accel - Part No: 170059 Boot/Terminal Kit; Distributor & Coil; Black; 8.8 - 9mm Straight Socket Or Points Style

Since I'm going to put these bigger wires on, what do you think? Should I get a better coil when I go to these wires or will it matter a lot if I wait a while? I guess what I want to know is will the bigger wires still be of benifit on the stock motor without any other up grades at this time?

Also, I had a couple extra terminals/boots lying around from and old universal set, (pretty skimpy wires). I put them on one of the new wires, even though terminals were a bit small & short, just to see how they were going to look, (playing, LOL) They were really tough to get to snap in the dist cap nipples the way they should.

I would think the bigger the wire is, the longer the terminal would be, which I beleive would solve the problem, am I right in this assumption, or is that just the stock dist cap?

Thanks in advance for any help you or anyone feels like giving, Diane
