Subject: Need help ASAP "throttle cable" IP: Logged
Message: Allright, I just got my V8 Holley Performance throttle body and hole and behold if it didn't have the slip in throttle linkage setup that so many on here talk about... So my question is this ---
How hard is it to change the throttle cable??? I went to take it out so I could order the one for the throttle body only to find out that no matter how much I tried I couldn't get the thing loose right behind the pedal to push it back out through the firewall, then I walked around to the engine bay only to find the linkage was what appeared to be in an intirely different location "maybe same but looked too high and far in toward engine", so can I just rip the old one out or is there like two different layers built into the firewall that made it look like a different location???
I tried to squeez the thing so I could slide it through, but couldn't get it to go through... Is there some other trick to this that I don't know about???
I looked at my throttle shaft "itself" and appears the two are interchangable, but I would rather not get into that if at all possible mainly because of spring and throttle sensors "being my luck I would brake" and the fact that the one on the Holley is shaved for more airflow... Would I be better off to just go ahead and get the throttle linkage or cable or would I be better off to change out the throttle shafts of the throttle bodies???
Can someone explain "in laymens terms" how to change the throttle cable the easy way??? I have allready removed from pedal and pedal from firewall for easier work space...
I know this will run about $30.00, but would rather do it right with the cable...
Thanks A WHOLE WHOLE LOT in advance for info,
Thanks Again,
Greg

Message: 1 remove from pedal link..
2.connector through firewall has two tangs on it..push one down and through firewall.then the other with out letting the 1st one reseat..or hold them in with pliers and push..it's a tight fit...
It's just a plasic connector..but a tight fit into the firewall

Message: Why would it be too big if I also am planning on porting and polishing along with roller rockers for next upgrades... Current upgrades are ---
fuel chip thing that makes it run richer "more or less"
cold air intake
tornado
helix bore throttle body spacer
I'm also planning on opening up the intake manifold with a little porting and polishing to it as well while I'm into the porting and polishing of the heads... I'm also planning on shaving .015" off of the heads and intake "to compensate for heads" thanks again for guys on here who told me about that one. Doubt it would have even crossed my mind until came time to reinstall the heads...
So wouldn't all of these other mods compensate for the more air or would it make them worse... Do I also need a fuel chip plugged into the computer for more fuel, because the one I've got now just kinda over rides intake temp to trick the computer into giving more fuel... Cheap, but effective...
Back to previous question, so that plastic tab on firewall was the back side of the thing I was trying to get out... I may just break one of the tabs as long as the V8 one will work, because I allready tried the pliers and pushing method, only to result in a little cussing and shoulder cramping from the tight a$$ space under the steering column... Allright then, I'll order the new one tomorrow and hopefully they'll just happen to have one in stock "doubtfully" and then I can get this thing up and a goin :))

Message: Well see that's partly why I ordered the bigger one ;)) I was planning on supercharging it in the future anyhow... But back on to subject what is the Mopar part number for the RIGHT throttle cable??? I went to the local dodge place today and they told me that they could order it, but it might not fit and I really needed the part number... So can anyone help me with this one... Could I just order a throttle cable for the 99' dakota with 5.2l or the 5.9l or did they have the ball joint too??? I need to know this by tonight if possible...
Thanks,
Greg
