Subject: RE: 180 Degree Thermostat? IP: Logged
Message: G'day I've just purchased my first truck, 2002 Dakota SXT 3.9L V6 5-speed and have already installed airaid cold air intake and throttle body spacers. I would like to purchase a 180 degree Robert Shaw thermostat. Can anyone tell me where I can find one on the web
Thanks

Message: Dingo you still have the receipt for that throttle body spacer? They are useless on our vehicles. Our engines get the fuel injected directly into the combustion chamber not via the throttle body so the spacer does nothing.

Message: The TB spacer is worthless, take it back. I've heard robert shaw doesn't make the 180 for our trucks anymore. The V8 K&N will fit the 3.9. The best mod you can do for the money is a new TB.

Message: Robert Shaw tstats are distributed by Be-Cool and you can order online from Jegs see link:-)

part #134-78004 under Mopar V8 Small Diameter
this will fit 3.9L V6. For the money stock V8 TB works great, you will need a V8 throttle cable all other sensors mount straight up OR F&B TB
http://www.fbthrottlebodies.com/ also the Fastman TB http://www.thefastman.com/index.asp
Airaid make cold air intake for V6 see http://www.airaid.com/

I found Prestone 180s at Checker Auto Parts and I believe Pep Boys and Auto Zone also carry them. For on-line try www.summitracing.com. They carry several brands.
"Any Recomandations on a tb?"
Most people will get all the flow they want out of a modified v6 tb. If you can find a v8 tb and linkage at the local junkyard, you might save a few bucks.

Message: So I can just buy a stock TB out of a v8 truck and it will increase my performance? If so I know where I can get one.

If you go that route, you also have to get the linkage. Remove the ends from your tb and compare them with the one you are purchasing.
If you modify the v6 tb, you will likely realize the same performance and you won't have to switch cable linkages.
