Subject: Ignition Coil.... Burning up IP: Logged
Message: Okay,
this may be a long post, so sorry in advance.
some time ago, I bought an accel ignition coil to replace the unstable stock coil. figured the accel would be a little better.
it ran great for a while, then the coil burnt up... brought it back to the store, the guy gave me a new one. did this for 4 coils in 5 months,
I am on my 5 coil now, but it is not accel it is from the company called standard ??? it is really just there until I can figure out why the dodge keeps burning up the coils.
has anyone else expecinced this?
I have a club cab, 1996 3.9L 4X4 with about 118,000 miles on it.
anyone have any ideas?
thanks

Message: if the standard coil last and works longer than the accel, than they probaily sold you the wrong coil for your truck.
it may be one for the point system

Message: It is the right coil for the truck... I have looked that up many times myself thinking the same thing.
I thinking something wrong with the computer.
right now... after just getting gas, I started up the truck and it didn't want to idle... did that 3 times until I matted the gas pedle and left that for about 30 seconds, it idled after that.
it must be a dodge thing....
if I can't get this strighted out (the dodge place has no idea what it is) then I'm selling it for whatever I can get and buying a Toyota Tacoma.

I seen the same thing with the acels not just on
dodge but all makes, they are not what they claim
to be.
get a MSD 8207 E core 40,000 volts
same thing with the jacobs ignition they just burn
up for no reason and try to get it replaced or
your money back and they tell you you did
something wrong and wont stand behind there
product
I will not install any jacobs or Accel products
in my shop, If a customer asks me to I tell them

Message: Larry, Thats go to know that you won't install any Jacob's or Accel products. On one of my trucks, I running the accel bolt on coil, with the MSD 6a. After my Jacob's Pro Street started cutting out and dying, I got an MSd box, new plug wires accel, that seem to be ok. I using a accel coil my son had. I just wanted to get it up and running ASAP. I keep the stock coil in the truck, in my tool kit as a backup incase the accel dies. I found out that Baxtor Automotive Parts from Oregon has opened a new store in Tacoma, I believe I saw the coil you run in there flyer. The local parts house I deal with was out of the MSD coils, whe I purchased my 6a from them. I should have ordered one from Summit. I guess I figure as long as the setup I running is working ok I would put it off. I think I have just been motivated.

Message: I don't know what it is with the Jacobs but I have
had nothing but bad luck with them and will not
touch them anymore.
The multi strike the 6a puts out will destroy an
accel coil in no time they just cant handle it.
I have about 40,000 on the MSD 8207 and it was
one of my first mods I added just the coil and
the box a few months latter and have had no probs
with mine or any other trucks and cars I have used
the MSD products on they work and last and don't
break down and leave you stranded
The 8207 sells for around $35
Once you get the coil installed with the box get
yourself a set of Autolite AP3924 if your stock
if you have cold air try the AP3923 and gap them
at .060 with the MSD system and you will see a
nice gain across the entire rpm range very
noticeable
Take advantage of the hotter spark if you run the
stock gap or just .010 bigger there are no gains
go .060 with the plat tip its great
