Subject: "Quiet" aftermarket exhaust IP: Logged
Message: Hi folks,
I'm new here, been lurking for about a week or so. This
seems to be the place for Dak questions, comments and
opinions! So here is my question. I have a 2001 V6 Quad
Cab Dak. I want to add a K&N to the stock air box. I'm not
interested in aftermarket coldair systems. I also want to
add an after market exhaust. However as I have aged so
have my tastes on the volume of exhaust note. I'm
looking for the mellowest, softest aftermarket exhaust
system out there. I also want it to exit the corners
behind the rear wheel. Not straight out the rear. I tow a
boat and don't want tips burning the back of my leg while
I'm trying to launch or retrieve my boat. If I have to have
one custom bent that's fine.
Also of concern is torque. If I understand what I have
read I will loose torque with a freer flowing exhaust. Is
this true?
Peace
Jan

Message: I don't know of any quiet aftermarket kits but Thrush makes a muffler that is quiet but will free up your exhaust for the most part. My local exhaust shop has put them on several other cars I have had and I really liked them. As for were the tips exit you will have to have the exhaust shop do new pipes for you. You can also get these mufflers at Discount Auto (Tampa). I am sure any auto parts store could have them or get them.

Message: Go ahead and remove the snorkel in front of the airbox when u put the K&N in there. It DOES make a difference while adding a bit of intake noise with the peddle mashed.

Message: I put a flow master 70 series on my 1997 v6 dak. It;s not much louder than stock, it has deep throaty rumble at idle, yet it still increases performance.

Message: i think the exhuast everyone is putting on there kota is the trush super-turbo muffler.
why could you not take off the little snorkle part with a normal paper filter instead of the k&n?
cause water gets in there?
