Subject: 96 Tran. Shifting Problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1996 Dak. 2WD with a 3.9L 4 speed auto.
My problem is that when it's cold the transmission will not shift into third. After I drive it 5 to 10 miles it will start working properly. Has anyone fixed this problem and if so how. Any tips will be much appreciated.
I took it to a shop and they said they know exactly what it is (internal seals and a few other little parts) for $1600.
I have read through other postings and found people with the same problems but I have not found any fixes.

Message: There is a trans temp sensor located in the
cooling line near the radiator, It may be bad they
are around $6.
The trans was designed not to drop overdrive when
cold. but if it gets worse haveing to be warmer
than normal before it shifts replace this sensor.
Did this shop even mention this or that it has a
sensor for temp that locks O/D out untill warm
