i recently put a new oil pump in my 3.9L when i started having this problem. Driving down the highway my dakota looses oil pressure. Then when you depress the gas the pressure will rise back up. The new pump didn't fix this problem so my question; WHAT IS WRONG THIS TRUCK? I thought maybe a new oil pan would be the fix, but I didn't want to go through the trouble until i got some feedback.

put a mechanical gauge on it to make sure that's not the problem.

you mean the oil pressure drops when you let off the gas? That's normal. Do what daddio said and verify that your dash gauge is reading correctly.

i do have a mechanical gauge, i don't trust digital anything. The oil pressure goes to 0 when i am on the gas. After I let back off the gas the oil pressure rises back up to 55-60 pounds.

checked your oil level? if it's over full when you rev up the throws on the crank can catch the oil and make it foam. not good. like pumping air.

Daddio may have a good suggestion.

Usually, the inverse occurs when there is a pump or excesive bearing clearance issue....ie: no pressure at idle and ok pressure with RPM.

I did have your problem when I drag raced a SMBLK Chevy with a HV pump. At 7500rpm the pump emptied the oil pan before the oil had a chance to drain back into the pan resulting in no oil pressure. A 6qt pan, regular volume pump and windage tray solved that.
