Message: Tonight i raced my friend w/ a 4cyl eclipse (5-speed) with an AEM intake. I have a RC 3.9 5-speed, stock motor. It was only in our local development, so we only hit like 65, but still.
Off the line i left about 20' burnout marks cuz of all the stones, but still had him off the line, and into 2nd gear, as i shifted to 3rd he caught up and edged ahead (my nose at his driver door) but as soon as my 3rd gear got going he didnt gain anymore...and thats how it ended because we ran out of room.
I may be wrong but shouldnt I be beating him?!? It seems as if the begging of 3rd lags and thats where he had me because he can still be in 2nd, and i guess if we went on a longer stretch of road i'd prob blow him off. Any tips on when to shift, how to shift, etc?? That has to be my problem.
Thanks!

Message: I think his car is a 97. I lauched at about 1500 i think? and slipped the clutch, trying not to burn out but the stones were horrible. I shift at about 5,000...maybe 5,100-5,200 sometimes. Red line is 4,800 which is also the trucks peak HP on the specs if i remember correctly.

Message: thats about what i shift at...except when i shift out of second i usualy hold it alittle longer like 5300 or so. u really cant tell tho cuz u were racin on gravel. i know some people who get better results out of shiftin there 3.9's at like 4900 and 4800. if u have the stock 3.55's i would def shift at higher rpms out of second cuz the truck likes to die in third until the rpms start getting up there again..btw i launch at 2200-2500

Message: when you are shifting while your foot is still on the clutch, dont let off the gas so when you let the clutch back off in the next gear, your engine is already spooled up to launch you. it will give you some better accel, hopefully. Steve

Message: And please keep your racing at the track, definatly NOT in your local development! (65 mph in a development just has stupid written all over it)
As a bonus, you won't have to worry about loose gravel.

Message: correct me if i am wrong,
but if you wind it out to around 5200 when you
hit third your rpms will be higher and closer to
the peak hp. Atleast thats what i do in my auto.

Message: I have a 99 dakota, about 35,000 miles. He has the 140HP version of the 2.0L.
Who knows, I guess in a longer race (1/4 mile) id have him, but i was just suprised that he beat me and wanted to know what i was doing wrong.
Also, I dont have money right now because im buying/building another quad for racing next season but i'd like to get some more power under my foot at lower RPM's for normal driving, and maybe some better gas mileage would help too...is there anything I could do at a minimal cost that isnt some kind of jypsy job?

Message: Ok so here are your stats
175 @ 4800 RPM
225 @ 3200 RPM
You should have him in the quarter. I have a 93 dak V6 mag. Says I have 180 hp and 285 torque. This site could be wrong. It's Msnauto.com. But I agree. You need a longer race. Those little 4's are quick off the bat, but cant keep up :)
