Subject: 27 inch Glass packs?? IP: Logged
Message: I was asking a guy I know that is a mechanic at a Chevy place (Which the same company owns the Dodge place next door also, thats how I can get cheap parts) about putting an exhaust on my 99 3.9 CC. I had mentioned putting a Flowmaster exhaust on and he told me that if I wanted that low, deep sound that the Flowmasters give and not get the famous popping sound on deccelration with Flows. He also told me that he could get a new Cat the Glass Pack and all the pipe plus instulation for under $150. How would that Glass Packs sound and also is that a good price for that or not?

Message: i can't tell you how it will sound or if that's a good price but, IMHO, it may be too free flowing and you will lose some low end torque.

Message: How about if I do not change the Cat and stick with the one I have got, will it have to much air flow then? I will be doing some other mods to try to gain more low end though.

Message: from what i've read here, a lot of people just change the muffler and leave the rest of the exhaust alone. personally i am trying a Cherry Bomb Turbo II right now. only had it about a month and noticed a slight performance difference. it revs a little faster. want to check mileage to see any diff there. but it was cheap. 20 bucks. if i don't like it i may go Dynomax 17748 or Flomax delta 50. it's personal pref. IMO, glasspacks too loud. bro in laws got some on a '98 chev 350. real LOUD. i can't stand the drone in the cab all the time.
sorry for ramblin'

Message: your not gonna get any power without changing the catalyst to a high flow. Your not gonna get a high flow cat for $60 more like #250-$400.
The straightest path of flow is optimum. Straight through muffs are great. A truck with a cherry bomb straight through sounds like a tractor thats not running right.
You arent going to get power without spending some cash, bottom line.

Message: herb where the hell are u finding highflow cats for 200+$? where ever ur lookin gthey are bending u over big time. summit racing sells carco's for 50$ ebay has carsounds for about the same. and fyi there is not much to be gained from swaping out ur cat. i bet u wont even tell the diffrence performence wize. and what are u thinkin saying that straight threw would b the best flow path? ever hear of good back pressure? i would take my superturbo over the ultra flow or any glass pack, certian cars would be hurt by a non straight threw muffler but since our trucks dont make 500+ hp theres not goin to be a diffrence between mufflers, the chamberd muffs would prob build ur lowend back up alittle. as long as it not a flowmaster
