Subject: K&N Filters and Tranny Question (Larry) IP: Logged
Message: 2 quick questions...
I'm buying a K&N air filter tomorrow for my edelbrock air cleaner. Just wanted to know if it needs oiled before first use and if I'll need to buy the care kit thing with it?
Also, this one is directed more towards Larry, but if anyone else knows the answer and wants to save him some typing, feel free to speak up. Should I be able to pick up a transmission speed sensor at Autozone and what's the name they'll call it? Also how much do they normally run and could someone tell me where to find it on my transmission and how easy it is to replace it?
If it's not called the speed sensor, it's the one that causes your tranny to shift from like first to third and quickly back to second just enough that you notice the rpm jump and also sometimes won't downshift as quickly as it should. The big thing is when shifting at least on mine, it goes:
Start out, goes through first gear fine, revs up a few hundred rpm's, then shifts into second, and continues driving normally except occasionally it'll do the same when going from second to third if I'm really standing on the pedal.
Thanks in advance!

Message: GB2000 ... the K&N filter that will fit your
edelbrock air cleaner should be pre oild and
everything...and yes it is recommended to get
the K&N recharger kit...it saves you alot of time
and money then buying those paper filters.

Posible speed sensor but most times a slow
reacting downshift when you nail it comes from
the TPS.
Check it with a volt meter and be sure its in
the right range
Idle closed key on not running .35 to .75
WOT wide open throttle 3.5 to 4 volts.
And no flat spots on your way to WOT
The TPS from autozone is made by wells and is a
good part. around $29
Drivers side of throttle body center wire + plus
and ground to check.

Message: Thanks Larry...
I don't think it's the TPS cuz there's other things involved (maybe I got multiple problems?). When I'm driving the transmission will basically slip now... it stays smooth, and doesn't jerk at all, but when I'm driving it'll rev up quite a bit between gears kinda like somebody in a stick shift driving and revving it up before letting the clutch out in the next gear. That's my primary problem with it...and sometimes it shifts pretty prematurely. I know it's not the overdrive one though...i have no problems with overdrive except when it's so cold that it shuts it off, and that's not really a problem I guess since it's made to do that.
Oh yeah, I went and ordered a K&N last night and they had it here by today...definitely a noticeable increase in acceleration. Maybe a decrease in gas mileage... at least for a few weeks til my foot loses some weight:) $35 at Advance Auto Parts.

There were a few years they had some probs with
the presure sensors or shift solonoid.
Sounds like your problem, what they did was
replace them and the problem was solved
Don't remember the exact TSB service for that but
I know it was for a few years
The speed sensor can make them shift funny and
yes you can get a replacemet at autozone for
around $60 on your truck located in the diff.
Its worth a try before you drop any big bucks
on the trans.
Also check all the electrical connections

Message: Would the pressure sensor you're referring to be the governor pressure solenoid or are you talking about both that and the transducer sensor?
