Subject: plow problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 V-6 Dakota just fitted for a 7.5 foot plow. The front suspension is heavily compressed and could used heavier coils. Does anyone have information on a source for heavy duty front coils for this unit?
Thanks.

Message: You put a 7.5' plow on a 2WD Dakota.
It's waaaaaaaaaaaay too light duty to plow snow, especially a V6. You going to destroy your truck.

Message: Models with a 5.2 or 5.9 V8 have a little heavier front springs. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Message: [1] if its 2wd take the plow off,its too much for the truck.
[2]but if its 4wd your ok,just get a lighter blade 7ft or 6.5ft,the 7.5 is much heavier
[3] put some sand bags or cement blocks etc
in the rear bed to off-set the plow[300-400lbs should do]
[4] if the truck don,t have a trans cooler,PUT ONE ON
[5] don,t use o/d
[6] use common sense, this will help more then anything
[7] i,ve got a plow on a 89,have,nt had a problem
been on for yrs
good luck

Message: The unit is a 4-wheel drive truck with a sander/salter mounted on the tailgate. The unit has a routine salt cargo of 500lbs behind the rear axle. I can add the transmission cooler very reasonably. We only plow our own 55 car lot, and do not do general plowing. We also do not plow really deep snow, as we have a contractor for backup with a full size truck. I also own an Oshkosh Rotary SnoGo Blower for "real snow". Thanks for the input.

Message: Well, if your truck is a 2000 4x4, then it has torsion bars. If you have room left for adjustment, you can crank them tighter to offset the weight of the plow.
I believe the v-8 trucks have heavier torsion bars, so you could also swap to the v-8 parts if you don't have enough adjustment.
