Message: Are the Inline 6 F-150's any fast at all? Some guy says he wants a piece of me and my Dakota and I didn't know whether to be cocky and confident or embarassed and intimidated. Thanks

Message: What year is his? I had an old carbed 1978 F-100 with the 300 inline six that wasn't super fast (1 bbl carb.), however, with fuel injection they became much peppier. It was a rock soild reliable engine, put over 220,000 miles on mine until I was hit and it was totaled. Took the insurance money and bought my '91 Dakota since it was the only thing I could buy with the $2000 they gave me that looked and ran halfway decent. I would use caution in trying to outrun the ole reliable 300 inline six!!

Message: My friend had an 80's f-150 with the 300 and a five speed. I raced him in my old auto, four banger shadow that was slow as hell. I had him until about 40 then he slowly pulled away. I think you could take him.

Message: My grandpa had one with a five-speed that I used to drive and it was definitely quick. I think it was a '97. It could beat my Dakota v6 auto, no doubt in my mind. The thing is that it has 299 or 300 cubic inches(either 4.9 or 5.0 liters). In a straight-six form, the torque curve is even more to his advantage.
Come to think of it, it must be because of the transmissions, but it was quicker than the work truck I drive with a Ford 302 (auto). Both are/were regular cab but the 302 has a longbed.
I would proceed with caution. If you have a stick and he's got an auto, you've definitely got a chance. If you've got a quad cab and he's regular or vice versa, that will influence the outcome too.
And if all else fails be cocky and intimidated.

Message: I have a '93 CC 4x4 3.9 Auto. Three kids in my class have f150's with 300's. I beat all three really bad. One is a 92 2wd 5spd, one is a 76 2wd 4spd, and the other is a 95 CC 4x4 5sp. You should have no problems!!

Message: I owned several late 80's 300 six banger fords. Go race the guy. Those engines lasted forever, however, they are no HP champs - they do make decent torque. You should pull away when he goes into 3rd
Fear not.
