after installing my 1.7 rr my truck started using oil at first it was using 1 qt of Mobil 1 every 500 miles but now after about 3000 miles it is using a quart every 1000 miles. I have changed the pcv valve twice, I have checed for leaks and can't find any. I pulled the plugs and they are a perfect straw color, the compression is 150 or 151 on every cylinder and the truck does not smoke. I check the oil on level ground with the engine warm and has been sitting for 5 min.. What am I missing? Where is the oil going?
Thanks and Merry Christmas

How did you fit the rockers under the stock valve covers? if you removed the baffels, thats your answer right there. Without baffels the pcv will suck tons of oil into the intake manifold.

I hammered the baffels down with a 2x4 and bent the ends down to open them up. I forgot to include that its a 98 cc v6.

Check down the throttle body for oil inside the intake manifold. Could be a plenum gasket gone. Good luck.

When I installed the tb about 3 weeks ago the plenum looked OK. I was amazed at how clean my old tb was since it had not been touched since it left the factory. the only deposits were on the iac at the back of the tb. I have a set of powder coated valve covers coming from Sam. I will see if they make any difference when I get them.

While I am asking questions. When I did the compression check I installed 3923 ap plugs and it seems to run a little better but I just finished a 400 mile trip and the highway mileage has dropped to 19 It had been running 20 and before I started adding things it was 21.8 so far nothing that I have done has increased the mileage why????

Check your injector sync 0 to +3 runs good with
the 1.7's

Did you relocate the IAT not all trucks respond
well to this mod and will lose gas mileage

I checked the injector sync and it was at +2 or 3 degrees. It is hard to tell exactly. Do you read from the center of the rotor?, I plan to do the crank sensor mod when I get time and it quits raining. The sensor looks like it will be a pain to get to, they don't give you much room to work. The truck runs so good I sure don't want to mess it up. It idles so smooth you have to look at the tach to be sure its running and accelerates like it has a V8
