Subject: 3923 Plugs? IP: Logged
Message: I had read in a post, way back when, about 3923 plugs. Why are these plugs better? And also I had that they needed to be gapped a little wider. How much wider? And how much more preformance would these plugs give me over some titainium ones?

Message: The 3923's are 1 range cooler and run great in
these motors.
On some trucks they even show a 4 to 5 hp gain at
the rear wheels
The AP3923 has a platnium tip and that has a lower
resistance to fireing and you can gap them .005
to .008 bigger and create a bigger flame front for
better performance and gas mileage.
I run the AP's at .060 with my MSD system and
you can notice the diff over the champs
Don't go with the APP they are just a waist of
money and there is nothing to be gained by using
them.

Message: i had the 3923's in but didn't think they ran very good. I gapped them i think the same as factory which is what (.045)? Are the AP3923's different than just 3923's? Maybe i'll try them again in the spring. Do you need to have an ignition upgrade to gap them bigger?

Message: Autolite
3923 regular chrome nickle
AP platinum tip only
APP platnium tip and groung prong
If you gaped the reg 3923 at .045 they would not
run right. stock gap is .035 or .040
If you are completly stock stick with the stock
heat range 3924 or extended 5224 going 1 range
cooler in some stock trucks does not work well.
If you have a cold air set up and bigger throttle
body than go 1 colder 23 if not stick with 24
the reason you can gap bigger on the AP's is
because it takes less resistance to fire the plug
going bigger on a reg plug with the higher
resistance to fire will make the spark to hot
With any plug there is a happy point where they
run just right and the plug insulator should be
a nice tan color than you know you are right.
If you open a standard plug .005 it will run to
hot and have a white color

Message: What would you recommend the AP3923's to be gaped at?
An will different plug wires help in performance at all? If so what kind?
I am not completely stock so I think that I will try these plugs. Thanks

If you did all the mods at the same time you need
to drive a few hundred miles so it learns all the
new paramiders
They are usualy around .035 out of the box its
always a good idea to check the gap before you
put them in because they could be wrong from
getting hit during shipping.
watkinstick
Gap the AP's .005 over stock some call for .035
and some for .040 so either .040 or .045
Better wires will transfer more voltage to the
plugs also brass incerts cap
Napa MO26 and MO28 cap and rotor around $15
MSD 8.5 super conductor wires run around $60 a
great value just get a set for the same year as
your truck for a 5.2 you have 2 wires left over
a perfict fit and no messing around putting the
ends on a universal set
