 Subject: Tire size question

Hello guys I need some help here.
I have a 2003 2wd Dakota that came stock with 16x8 wheel with tire being 255/65r16.
I also have a 2002 4x4 Durango that came with 16x8 wheel with tire being 265/70r16.
This is what I am going to do, I am going to put a 3" body lift on my Dakota and I want to put a litter bigger tires height and width.. The question I have is what number in the tire size represents height & width???
I cant go much wider on the width of the tire with the stock rims because it will rub. I guess I will have to go to another wheel with diffrent (lower number) back spacing other than the stock 5 1/2 that comes on the truck.
I like the look of the tire being even with the wheel well or protruding a little out.. So if anyone could help me with this and put me in the right direction it would help a lot. Thanks

i may be mistaken but i think the first number is width not height, second number is height. here is a cool site someone sent me, chek it out.

First number is width in MM
Second number is ASPECT RATIO(Height is %of width)
Third is wheel diameter.
So your first tire is 255mm wide and (255x55%)high
Your second tire is 265mm wide and (265x70%)high
Take the height /12.7 add the wheel diameter and you have the overall diameter in inches.

Some manufacturers measure acroos the tread others from sidewall to sidewall ,so all tires with the same PXXXXRXX.
My 2003 Dak 4X4 came with P265\70R16s so if you like the look of the tires on your Durango ,then with a 3" lift they will fit on your 4X2Dak without concern for back spacing .The Tire Fitment Guide at Costco lists a P305(not sure if its 60,65,or70)R16s for a 2002 4X4 Dak,with a warning about possible tire rub.Gives you someplace to start anyway.
