Subject: Bad Misfire IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1995 dodge dakota 3.9 with 114,000 miles. Recently i began having a misfire problem at various rpms. At idle, driving, or just revving it up. Temperature doesnt seem to be a factor. when driving it will miss then seem to be fine for a while then start missing again. this is not a little miss its pretty serious. after driving for awhile (15-20min)it will begin misfiring so bad that i have to pull over. even when i try to floor the gas pedal it will not rev that high and continues to miss. then i turn the truck off and wait several minutes then start it back up and i can drive it for about another 10 or so minutes before i have to pull over again and shut it off because of it missing so badly. i have replaced cap, rotor, wires, and plugs but no luck. i am thinking maybe crank position sensor or fuel pump and filters. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Message: I had a similar problem earlier this year on my 96 CC 4x4 v6 with 165000 miles. I kept checking the fuel pressure, but after shutting the truck off to connect the fuel pressure gage everything was fine. Finally I realized it only happened with less than 1/2 tank of gas. Turned out the fuel pump was worn out and would get hot when the fuel was low enough to not fully cover the pump. So you may want to pay attention to your fuel level when the problem occurs.

Message: I agreee, probably a pump problem.
I had something simular where I got a tank of bad gas from one of those no-name gas stations. I had so much crap in the tank that it would clog the "sock" on the end of the fuel pump and the truck would start running bad or even die all together. I had to drop the tank and wash it out.

Message: I have the same problem on my 92 V6, I actually blew out the muffler too, check forum 92 V6 backfire and stall, I got a lot of good advice, but I hope your problem is more definable.
