Message: As it turned out the solution was as simple as
changing the direction of the jack. The floor jack
doesn't lift straight up but it pivots and makes the
engine shift slightly. By setting it to jack from
the drivers side it shifted enough to let the engine
lift another inch or so. Suddenly removing the pan
was a piece of cake and a few minutes later the oil
pump was replaced.
