Message: I've got a 98 w/41K+ miles on it and it revs real high getting from 3rd to 4th and it will not shift into 5th/OD. The dealer said it would cost about $1500 to get that thing fixed because it's internal(2nd diagnostic performed). This is after I had them diagnose it on thursday and they said it was the tranny gasket pan leaking.I had them fix it and here it is Monday and the problem has gotten worse.
I called AAMCO transmission and the guy said that
Dodge doesn't solve the problem, they replace it and that the 4th gear is controlled electronically
via a governor/solenoid of some sort that tells the tranny when to shift - i.e. - possibly
not an internal/mech. problem.
Is the AAMCO guy right?
Did I have the gasket pan
replaced for no reason?

Message: Yes there is an O/D solonoid and I beleave the
year truck you have did have probs with them the
speed sensor could also cause the trans not to
shift into O/D
AAMCO guy is right, I would try a diff dealer the
one you went to don't sound like he knows to much
about the transmissions
They don't know how to fix it so they just want to
replace the whole thing

Message: Well it turns out that Dodge was right.
It is an internal problem.
Dodge quoted me about $1300 just to
take tranny out,apart,and put it
back together. That's without replacing anything.
It's about $640 for AAMCO to do it.
I'm still looking at a crapload of money to pay
but at least it's cheaper than those
vampires at dodge.
