hello my 87 dodge dakota gets unspeakablely BAD MPG!!!! I was wondering is it my o2 sensor or some thing else. the truck has around 210,000 miles on it but I had a rebuilt carb put in it when it had about 80,000 miles on it.

I'm guessing O2 sensor...if they haven't been changed in a loooong time, that's prolly it.

Didnt you just work on the carb you may have the
float off and the fuel level will be to high
This will give you bad gas mileage

I am too getting bad mileage but my o2 sensor trip the check engine and then it never came on...if it is acting up will it trip it again or do a horrible job and mess with my truck....and another thing is it good to be doing 50 m.p.h. and have my rpm's at 1600-1700? thus more gas being sucked!

The float is still on larry. Thanks for your help GB2000. Hey, what do I do if its my o2 sensor I don't think its been checked in a number of years or should I say a number of miles!

Hey Trav or Larry or Gb2000, where is the o2 sensor located on the 87 3.9L. because I think that might be whats got mines guzzling gas! The other day A guy told me that the reason that the 87's get so bad gas milege is because of the 3sp trans. he said that when your on the highway the torque converter locks up and what ever speed the engine turns the wheels will turn the same speed. but with overdrive the drive shaft turns 1000 Rpm's faster than the engine so that why an enginge with over drive get pretty good gas milege !

I forgot to tell yall that I removed the smog pump! So it shouldn't be the o2 sensor?
