Subject: Changing T-stat... Stripped Bolt IP: Logged
Message: Hello all.
well I thought I would change my T-stat today so I could have heat.
well that didn't work as well as planned.
when I took the bolt out some of the threads came with it.
now my how to question... how do I put it back together so I can drive it?
I don't have the tools to retap it.
I normally don't mind waiting until I can get it in to the shop, but we have a big storm coming sunday, monday and need my truck.
it is a 1996 4WD 3.9L V6 with the club cab.
thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Message: You might be able to find a self tapping bolt. With a very limited supply of tools, it will be hard. Really a helicoil would be the way to repair this. I know this isn't much help. But good luck.

Message: How much of the threads came out all of them or
just some is it totaly striped out.
Thread incert is a lot better than a heli coil
and there is room to use one, I have, only to
do it right you need to remove the alt air bracket
so you can work on it.

Message: Larry,
I'm not familiar with Thread Incert or Heil Coil.
could you explain them to me.
On the last engine that I rebuit (small engine, it was a Yamaha Blaster eninge, 200cc two-stroke) I stripped out a bolt but I had the tools to tap it then. so I am not very familiar with the alteranitves.
I have heard the selftapping bolts will work... will it?
thanks larry, and deep purple.
