Message: Dakota4life,it's great to hear from the younger folks that are getting involved in Mopars,it keeps the fires burning.I've got a ten year old son who has been going to swap meets with me since he was 2 so he's got Mopars on the brain as bad as I have.I'm going on 45 and have had literally over 1500 cars and all but 3 of them were Mopars.I still have a 71 Charger SE thats a U code car with the 440 HiPo and a 340-4 speed Demon and a couple of Dusters and a 69 Dart GT convertible. What kind of parts are you needing for your 72? I have a buddy that has a couple of Chargers.

Message: hemichuck,
Dude thats 2.7 cars a month starting the month you were born. And if you paid like at-least $5000 each, (and that's cheap for a decent car) thats $7,500,000.
Man you must be hard on cars...

Message: Mathboy,Back in the mid and late 70's when I was in my late teens and early twenties you could buy old muscle cars for almost nothing.Actually I got quite a few for nothing.I remember weeks when I could get 2.7 cars a day!
When the gas prices went up in the mid 70's everybody freaked and started selling muscle cars like they were the cause of the plague. When you consider that the cost of a new car back then was in the $2000 to $4000 range and most of the cars I bought were 10 to 15 years old so they had little or no value on the used market. It was not uncommon to buy a decent Challenger or Cuda in the $300 or $400 range.I walked away from a 69 Hemi Roadrunner with under 20,000 original miles on it for $1000 because the quarter panel was mashed in on it.
When I turned 16 I started buying and selling car parts to support my car habit.I would pick up used performance parts for darn near anything ever made and sell them for a profit and then spend the profit on my Mopar stuff. After a while I got a reputation locally as someone who dealt a lot of parts and before long I had people calling me from all over the place looking for stuff.I also had a reputation as a person who could hunt up rare parts so I had quite a few folks seeking me out to help them find parts. In the early 90's I quit dealing parts for a few years and when I started again I decided to stick mainly to what I liked(Mopar Stuff).
As far as the $7,500,000 goes I doubt that that much money was ever involved because the cars were so cheap then and fortunatly I made money on almost everything that I bought and sold.I dont doubt that over the years I have probably spent a million or two on cars but at the same time I probably spent several thousand that I will never see again on beer.
Maybe if I had a little more foresight I might have kept some of the more valuable cars but there's a limit to how much I could keep around.I've stepped over that limit a number of times, enough to get me kicked out of my parents house and a couple of rental properties but now I'm an old married guy with kids and I have a very large warehouse to keep my 10 or so cars in.
The cheapest car I ever bought was a 1968 Hemi Charger for $30,missing the motor of course but it still had the Dana and all of the 4 speed parts.I still have the door emblem off of that car.
The neatest car that I missed out on was a 70 Superbird with a 426 Hemi and 4 speed for $1000 and the owner was going to throw in the original 440-6 pack motor with the car.I was home from college for the weekend and my dad had sold a car for me while I was away.I asked him for my money but he wouldnt give it to me because he new I was going to buy a car.By the time I borrowed some cash and got back to the guys house another friend of mine had found out about the car and was loading it on his trailer.
I loved it back then because you didnt have to be a rich guy to own some really cool cars(unlike present day)
Keep crunchin them numbers,Chuck
