ALright
I have 98 RC 3.9l dak with 9inch K&N intake
IAT Adjuster, .76% TPS, Glasspack y-pipe exaust and a soft tonneau.
All this guys got is a 99 ford ranger
4x4 with 31.10.50 with flowmaster real
dual exaust.
We are planning to race this friday
and i want to see if i can bet some
money on my truck. He went last
week and swears he out ran a stock
v6 dak and went about a 16.7
dual exauast

i don't think ur gonna win although fords do suck ass, but the 4.0 is their top engine if it cant beat our third biggest that would be pretty pathetic.
thats 32 more hp 10 more foot lbs of torque
and he weighs less

Yeah...I work at a Ford dealer and it might all come down to the driver in this circumstance. I know I could beat my 01 RC 3.9 auto if I was driving a ranger 4.0 5-spd. Those are quick trucks.

I walked all over one and gave him 3 hits to start it was a street race. No money on it but we raced 3 times and i one all three times. It was fun then he wanted to go get his modifed ranger with a 5.0 in it and i said no

He's got 3.91's
and i got 3.55's
but when my tranny was shot i was able to
hang with him and thats when i didn't have
the IAT adujuster or have my TPS set to .76 it was set at .54.
now i have a new tranny and those two new mods
what you think now

verus 2wd reg cab 98 auto dak.
by the way he also has a auto
should i leave it in drive our shift from 1st to 2nd to then drive.

You will Smoke him.
You have a 4x2 vs. a 4x4. The resistance in his drive train will give you the edge and the fact that he has 31x10.5 tires will be the killer he has much more resistance than you.
His engine is not that much stronger than yours to compesate for his extra drag.

dude he'll smoke you.. sorry to say it, BUT that is the best engine ford has to offer in their rangers, and the 3.9 is the base model engine for dodge, id like to see that guy race a 5.9L

I have a buddy at church who we are planning on racing. he has a 2002 ranger 4x4 with 4.0L. i have a feeling he will beat me. how i look at it just go out and have fun whether you win or loose. im geting used to loosing but i loose having fun. last night i raced a supped up v6 mustang. when he was revving his engine i thought for sure it was a G/T. i was like "oh crap im about to get toasted." as soon as we took off i knew it wasnt a G/T cause i was was with him the whole way. as soon as we hit 90mph he was only a car length ahead. i flashed my brights to end it. i really dont need to see blues behind me. we pulled up to a gas station and i asked what he had he said a supped 6. i thought i did pretty good considering i have only added flowmasters and K&N and who knows everything he had done to the mustang. anyways, i dont mind loosing as long as i have fun. i must admit though it is more fun when you win.
a funny story too is friday i got off work and a buddy wanted to race me in his oldsmobile alauro(a two door 4 banger). i started off in low gear and we both gunned it. i spun some. i forgot though that i had it still in low gear. i was in the red but i was with him the whole way. he was probably in 2nd or third gear. he only was a couple inches ahead. not bad huh? hehe

the 2 door alero with a 4 banger only came with a five speed so that's not to bad...watch out for the v-sixers, though....180 horsepower and one mean auto!

This alero has is a four banger with an auto. unless this cat doesnt know what he has. anyway the point is i was with him the whole time screaming in first gear. i know it had to have sounded good with the flowmasters. we did it at the mall, glad no one called the cops.

hummm? unless he had it special ordered, the two door 4 bangers only came with the stick....kinda like the 4 banger dakota sport...i am sure it was loud....i've done it a couple of time....just forgot to shift out of first and the rev kick in and when i did shift man did my truck jump...kinda why i want to change my shift points and rev limiter

what year of ranger was that? and was it stock? becuase up until 00 or 01 they only had 160 hp with 225lbs torque...in their 4.0's..i have a 92 dakota...stock 180 hp with 225 lbs torque..i have a hollowed out catylic converter with a K$N drop in filter..i'm running about 198..but before the K&N i raced a 4.3 liter chevy s-10 and spanked it all over the road..

Not bad against that Ranger though, they are pretty quick. What kind of performance upgrades can I do for a few bucks on my '89 3.9 with 72,000? its an Auto with 4x4. I removed the smog pump a long time ago it was causing nasty popping, and the cat is gone, all I have is a glass pack.

1999-2000 model rangers with 4.0 = 160 hp
2001 and up with 4.0 = 207 hp
I once test drove a 99 4X4 ranger with a 4.0 and it was a pig, more so than my 99 3.9 dakota, to my suprise. I'm not suprised you beat him. Watch out for 2001 and up models, though....
