Facts check here I read this post again and see a bunch of S#@t. For one thing the Rangers pre-2001 all come with one of three engines a 120 hp 4 banger(most common) a 3.0 v6 that has 150hp and the 4.0 v6 that has 160hp. Now since I owned a 94 ranger x-cab for about 2 years I know alot about them like even if you put a supercharger on a 4.0 you will only get 205 hp unless you run some major NOS and MAS on the intake really sucks and if you mess with the flywheel on a 4.0 from 90-2000 there is a good chance it will come through your floor and the trannies will fall apart on you and they will start to eat about a quart of oil a month once you hit 100,000 miles and teh best gas mileage you will get is mabye 16 on the highway. RANGERS SUCK A$$. If I took the cheapest part I could find and made a truck then I would probly have a ranger.

well idiot i have raced 7 rangers 6 with v6's and got atleast a half car length on them now tell me this i have one of the slowest dakotas in my city and still have not got beat by a ranger. FORD SUCKS just like MetalgreenDak said "If I took the cheapest part I could find and made a truck then I would probly have a ranger." and thats coming from a previous ranger owner and the new 3.7L dakotas have 215hp and they have pretty good acceleration for being stock

Rangers do suck....THIS IS A MUST READ!!!!!!!!. My friend just bought a 2001 Ford Ranger, it has the 4.0 in it. I have a 98' Dakota RC with a slow ass 2.5ltr. 4 banger. We raced, and I beat him about a whole truck length. We both have 5-speeds, and are both RC, short bed. I don't know why I beat him, but sense then I've beaten him 8 times. Now if thats not Dodge's speed for ya I don't know what is.

You can't go comparing HP/Weight ratios when your using a Regular Cab for one and a Quad Cab for another! Not to mention one is a 4x4 and the other isn't... Apples to Oranges, my friend!

moron, i was comparing the slowest V6 to the I4 to see if it was faster. look at the post before it. and the "~" means approximate. not concrete by any means.
and also I think 12.9 is a generous estimate because my cc 4x4 could barely do that stock it was roughly 12-13. 14-15 before it broke in all the way. i expected the QC V6 to be slower. I think 12.9 is like what a 5 speed 3.92 would get.
but hardly any one was dumb enough to get V6 QC's or 4 cyls for that matter

All you people think I'm lieing about the 2.5mag beating the 4.0ford. I'm not,... I swear to god,.. I just did it again today. The only thing I have in mine is a $58 K&N Air Filter. Maybe my friend has no idea how to drive a stick... but it doesn't seem like it when I ride with him. Maybe I'm just the man at stick... haha,.. ya thas it boyz,.. "The 5-speed Man" This might be true considering I can burn out in a 5-speed on DRY pavement without dropping the clutch. Thats skill fellas.

I doubt any V6 dak could take a 4.0 ranger let alone a 2.5. I know that a 4 cyl 2wd ranger isn't a lot slower then my V6 so how could you beat a 4.0 207hp vs 120hp. just doesn't add up. get time slips or something.
oh btw my v6 cc 4x4 auto beat a mustang gt yesterday...that is more likly then what u said. the hp difference is the same. daks are heavier then rangers to boot. what was he towing? a ram? a hummer?? two boats with a full bed. are you sure it wasn't 4 CI. if this is true i better go race that guys 4 cyl ranger lol

ll blackdak... your comparing car engines to truck engines. they are designed and geared differently then for cars. they are made for trucks! the corvette gets better gas mileage for more than weight (about 1000 lbs lighter than most daks), they have a .5 sixth gear ratio, they have better aerodynamix, they have different rearend gears (3.42 max), they have better air induction...etc, etc, etc.
if you put one of those little high horse V6s in a truck... it would scream at you and blow up!... my truck has gotten the same gas milage as my parents old s-10... it was a 97 cc with the 4.3 so it probably weighed the same as my rc. you talk about how you wish your truck was faster and blah blah blah... makes me think that you are a little heavy on the gas... try not for a couple of tanks and see how you do.
that RX300 gets better gas milage for the reason you said.... the engine cost more. would you spend an extra 20,000 for a engine that got 18 city and 22 highway? god i hope not... but most of the stuff you wrote up there contradicts itself...

yes, i will agree the 3.9 is getting a little old but it is in reason with it's size and the weight of the vehicle it is in.

4 cyl power and 8 cyl mileage......thats about right!! So what if all you people are putting out gobs of power from mods you've done. Your average person wishes to buy a vehicle and keep it the way it is. You can't say the 3.9 has power in stock form. It is SO ball-less. I want to do mods to mine but things keep breaking so i never have money for mods. The quality of my truck actually pisses me off more than the lack of power. I can deal with the scary passing and
white-knuckled merging with traffic if the truck was more reliable. I still like my truck for some odd reason, though. Its like a love-hate realtion ship........lol.......

18/22 isn't "that good". it's good... but not "that good". that suv has no bed... cover your bed and you will be getting that gas milage or better.
i just went down to bernd's the other day... i have a 15 gallon gas tank and when i went down there i had my sunroof open all the way (up and back). in the first 1/4 tank i got 85 miles (15 gallon tank!). after i need to fill up on the way back i was getting 20 mpg... yeah... pretty sh!tty. but with the next tank full i closed the sunroof. i got 101 miles to the first 1/4 tank. the sunroof did cause a difference but i think the southerly winds also help or made it worse.
with the drive home i was averaging about 23-24 miles per gallon... if i had my tonno cover on it would have been like 25-26. i know you have a 4X4 and you won't get that much... but hell... you HAVE A 4X4!! i wish i had one... i actually tried to trade my truck for one!

I drove to NC really slowly(50-65 the whole way) I got 20-22 mpg!! driving around long island i get 11-14. do soft covers help as much as hard ones??

i don't know about the covers.... but i was thinking your larger tires will cut down on your city mpg but will help out a lot when you drive on the highway. it takes the truck more effort to turn them but when they are going they cover more area with less turn of the engine.... just some food for thought.

i really don't want to race it as much as i just want speed and as for dodge they are too sh*tty a company to miniter these sites and they don't care. my truck has only had one problem in 23,000 miles, and it was a clock spring recall that set off the airbag light. It seems to be well built to me.
