Subject: Torqued off intake stud... IP: Logged
Message: Tonight I got my oil changed in my 93 3.9L V6 and got home and I decided I was gonna look under the hood. When I looked down I saw that the K&N filtercharger was loose and hanging off the TB. I came to find out that the curved stud that keeps the round filter in alignment and holds down the intake onto the TB gasket was completely torqued off!! One half of the stud was broke off but still screwed into the TB and the other half must have fell down from the engine compartment.
It would definitely be a hasle to try to get the half out of the TB. Now remember I still have the stock V6 TB on. Do you guys think that I should go to my local dodge dealer and get a new stock 5.2L V8 TB or try to mess with getting the stud out of there? I have been wanting to get a bigger TB ever since I put the aftermarket intake on. If so how much money would a new stock V8 TB run from a 92-95 dakota from dodge? would I have to get the sensors or are mine off of my V6 TB gonna work? Also does anyone know if I can get one of those curved studs from K&N seperate that will work for my model (57-1501)? Some help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Message: remove the throttlebody and take it to a machine shop, not an automotive shop but a "job shop" should only take about a half hour to setup and drill out and re-tap of needed. and cost about 30 to 40 bucks depending on shop rate, usually 60 to 80 bucks an hour for the small milling machine they will use. Lots cheaper then buying a new one!

Message: Yes it can be drilled and tapped no problem but....sounds to me like you want an excuse to get a bit more performance? If so than try car-part.com. Get a 5.2 Tb from years 92-4 and it will be a bolt on cept........I did do a 93 once that needed the bottom end of the throttle lever ground down a bit, it hit the upper fuel return line a slightly. No biggy though, 5 min work.
Use all your original sensors, dont use any that V8 tb comes with.
You will have to make the "S" bolt. Not a big deal, just get some All Thread, hold it up to your stock hold down and start bending to match. Note: put 2 nutz on the All Thread where ever your gonna use pliers or Channel Locks to bend it.
Good luck

Message: Good excuse to get a bigger TB a new one from
chrysler will run around $180 to $200 used $50 to
$100 but you may also need a V8 cable around $35
for a new one.
Just get ahold of Fastman Dan and get a 46mm for
$250 there is virtualy no diff in performance
over the 48mm F&B we tried to dyno the diff but
not everyone beleaved that the F&B only showed
4hp more and about 10 foot pounds of torque over
the fastman the F&B is a $150 more.
contact K&N they will sell you the s bolt seporate

Message: I have done quite a few V8 Tb's on mag 6's 92-4' and I have never had to swap the cable so long as a 5.2 Tb was used that was no newer than a 94.
Like I said its always been a bolt on cept for the return line 92& some 93's.
Very cheap and easy mod for us early Gen2'ers

Message: Ok thanks guys. Yeah I would sure like to upgrade to the 5.2. TB. I guess that means I can always sneek it off of my dads:)
I dont really want to spend too much money on one but 180-200 dont sound bad for a new one from chrysler. Does anyone know where I could buy a used V8 TB for a reasonable amount other then car-part.com?

Message: Have you even tried car-part?
If you have you would have seen that they list (in my case) 20 or more places to buy within driving distance.
If thats not enough choices I dunno what is.
