Subject: New Exhaust ??

Message:
I am planning on getting a new exhaust for my 99 Dakota Ext-Cab within the next month. I was wondering if I should go with Flowmaster 40 series or go with a Gibson muffler. And also should I got with pipes or no pipes. If pipes how should I set them up? Thanks

I have a flowmaster 50 series delta flow on my 2000 v-6. Sounds alot better than that Borla. It isn't very loud in overdrive, and gave a noticable power gian along with a cold air intake. My friends though it sounds like a v-8. Here is my recomendation: Dump the tailpipe right after the muffler, or turn the pipe down. Do not put a tip on it, it will sound like a honda at high RPM's. I chose the 50 series because it had a more mellow tone (I did not want it too loud), and it definately sounds deeper and powerful.

If I was you, go with the 40 series flowmaster, it's got a deep tone and it sounds good. If you want a little more sound out of the FM, gut your catalytic converter (it is illegal to do, but I bet you can find someone to do it for you). The bad thing about the exhaust is that you start to lose the deepness of the tone at about 3000 RPMS.

40 series I think will be my choice. I will have to find a cheap one somewhere. I think I have found a place that is pretty cheap. Someone told me that they can get them stright from the factory so I can get it pretty cheaply. I don't really do too much over 2500 rpms so losing the tone won't be too bad. Unless I am racing my friends.
