Subject: Is this good MPG or not? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 V6 5spd 2wd Dakota extended cab. I put in a K&N drop-in oem-type air filter, 3" FabTech lift, 31x10.5 BFGoodrich AT, and a 3.91 gear change [on an Auburn LS system]. I finally took it for its first real shakedown drive over Thanksgiving. My average MPG over 1850 miles [from LA area up I-5 to Oregon, over to coast and reversed] was about 19.6 MPG, at around 60 mph. Is this average, good, or can I improve on it?
Part of me thinks this is pretty good, but my other vehicles are a 91 Kawasaki Zephyr that gets around 31-39 mpg, an 88 Civic that gets around the same, and an 83 Honda v45 Sabre that gets about 35-44 MPG.
One of the four is glaringly lower than the rest, so I want to try to get it as high as I can, but am not sure if I am there yet or not. Any advice would be appreciated.
My interest in the Dakota is as a daily-driver and access method for hiking and camping sites. I am considering selling one or two of the other vehicles, but want to be sure I have max-ed out the Dakotas fuel efficiency first, so I know what I am getting into. Thanks!

Message: I'd say that is good mpg. I have a 2000 5 spd v6 RC and thats more than I'm getting (last time I checked). Considering you have the CC, lift and bigger tires, and have higher mpg than me, your doing great.
