Subject: Shifts down and red lines when driving

I know this has been on the board before but i can't find the post. I have a '98 V6 Auto 3.9. For some stupid reason every time it gets cold it loves to shift down and red line when i give it gas.

I've had the truck for a year now and it did it twice last winter. I also have a feeling that i can't fix this without paying an ungodly amount of money so could someone explain to me why in the world it feels like doing that.

And also i don't have to flood the engine to get it to do it. I can have it pressed down halfway in 2nd say doing like 40 some and then it'll just drop down to first torque down and redline.

Any explainations would be awesome.

O yea, and another simple stupid question. I'm not a genious about trucks or anything but how do i know if i have positrac. It doesn't say on the dakota doors or glove door. and last year i got stuck and i seem to remember one wheel turning one way and the other doing a different way. So i think i answered my own question but i just want to make sure.
