Subject: Larry...I'm needing to bug you again!!! IP: Logged
Message: I read the Dakota Heater Problem post, and posted to the end of it the following as none of it really applied to my problem....Message:
My question is... I have heat, but a few days after I got this truck last week, the blower quit working. I noticed the blower would seem to cut off and on a lot during operation the day we were driving it home. Now nothing! It puts out a lot of heat without the blower on, so I don't think it's the core. Fuses are good, checked and changed. Blower motor or switch? That's the question.
Thanks!
The only other thing I can say is I'd turn it off then back on and it would work for awhile again. Next day went to turn it on and nodda.
Also, Thanks about the bolt pattern question, I posted a reply.
Diane
P.S. Hopefully I'll get the bugs worked out soon and not be such a bother. Factory manual should come this week, that will help a lot too;)

Message: what yr is your truck?
87 - 96 i think, on the right side [pass] under the hood,on the firewall, you,ll see a plug in with 5 wires, theres two small screws that holds the fan resistor.
more than likely the problem is here, the plug in may be corroded or the resistor may need replaced
the wires can be tested with a test light for power with the key on and fan switch on.

Message: DADs DAK, LOL there are a lot of people who want
me for one thing or another mostly the other thing
than the one thing
That's about all there is to the blower,
The resistor, the switch and the motor, you can
take 2 jumper wires ground and batt voltage and
run directly to the blower motor if it runs its
the switch or resistor being the resistor more
often than the switch.
Check the ground a lot of times that is all that
is wrong they lose there ground just use a jumper
wire from a good ground off the motor and hook it
to the fan and see if it than runs

Message: Tried VERN'S suggestion on the resistor, cleaned the contacts & plug. Used some electronic spray cleaner on them too, Got em real clean, the plug was really nasty, lots of black crap came out. Checked the wire plug had power there, how do I accualy check the resistor. There are 4 connection prongs, will an ohm meter tell me anyting on them? Also, didn't see any wires off anywhere or loose at the plug.
That's as far as I got before I had to stop and help with the exhaust. Gonna try Larry's suggestions today.
LARRY, Where or which wires should I trace or look for as far as ground is concerned. From the plug they go into the harness, can't see anything there and wire harness bundle looks real good. I'm thinking maybe the ground is a good bet, with the way it was going off and on before it quit. It was like a loose connection kind of thing... but the more I think about it, could the switch of been getting hot and just kicking off till it cooled down? Maybe a wire off the switch its self. Hopefully that's all it is. I've got some spare toggles I can use one for now if it's the switch, at least have heat till I order & it comes in.
Thanks once again everyone,

Message: try a jumper wire as larry said on the plug in at the resistor,if the fan works, its a good chance the resistor is bad.
remove the two screws and the resistor is right there.becareful the resistor can get VERY HOT!!!
the resistor is not costly, about $15
