Subject: Auto Transmission Service and Adjustment IP: Logged
Message: I have done a lot of research and reading on this great forum. Thank you in advance to all those who contribute positively to make this forum such an informative place.
I have a 99 Dak 4x4 with a 3.9 V6 Automatic. I've noticed that shifting is beginning to get a little "clunky"..not as smooth as other auto vehicles.
My guess is I need to do a fluid change/band adjustment. As I am fairly handy I'd like to do this myself to save a buck or two.
I have read the info here in this post
http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/6883.html
My question is how do I adjust the bands for this particular truck (99 3.9 auto 4x4)?
Can they be adjusted from the exterior of the tranny? (adjustment porthole)?
What is the correct procedure? What is the proper adjustment specs?
Any tips/advice would be appreciated!

Message: 1 inside while the pan is off and 1 outside,
The number of turns you backoff is differant on
differant years and models.
Go to your local public library and check there
manuals, if you have a tech school near you they
will also let you look at there manuals, I am at
home now so don't have any here or I would look
it up for you.
Be sure you use good trans fluid, no dextron or
el-cheapo.
We only use either Chrysler ATF+4 or Amsoil syn.
