Message: I installed a K&N FIPK Gen II system on my truck last week.Everything went easy except when it came time to bolt down the L bracket to the fender well. The factory stud started to turn with then elastic stop nut befor I could tighten it all the way. I figure I have a couple of options unless someone has a better fix. 1. drill a hole through the plastic fender well get a vise grip on the bottom and tighten down. Then Find a plastic plug and fill the hole. OR 2. pull the plastic wheel well out and tighten or grind stud out and replace with a bolt and double nut it on top. How long should it take to remove the wheel well? Do the plasticic fasteners screw out or do you pull and replace?

Message: Once those fastners are out from the wheel well cover that's it, they're broken, at least that's what happend with mine. You can go to AutoZone or a hardware store and pick up some plastic bolts, the same that came on the truck. They snap in, and that's that. I'm assuming you're taking off the passenger side wheel well.....are you going to leave it off? If so how bout you sell it to me?

Also, when I was going to do this same install as you I didn't bother bolting down the heat shield very well, I just did the 1 bolt to the bottom fender, and that was good enough for me, heh'.

Message: (old topic, i know)
Ran into the same problem this weekend!
I just took a dremmel tool and chopped of the stud. Then I took a small sheet metal screw and fastened the L-bracket down with that.
I had problems finding a place for the saddle bracket to bolt into. So I didn't. It's one of those "extra parts" that I sometimes get when I do these projects

Message: silvdak17, I think what they do is make one kit to fit several different models, that's why you sometimes get parts you can't/don't use is all.
