Message: I just got an 88 off road 4x4 v6 with only 109k on it. Truck is in great shape but has been sitting for a several months. Drove it home 540 miles. After first 100 miles on the highway I let off the gas to let a simi in. What's weird is the washer fluid light started flashing, then the oil pressure light can on, oil pressure dropped to nothing and by the time I crossed the lanes and pulled off it died. Now everytime you start slowing down, the same thing happens, but if I give it a little gas before I come to a complete stop it keeps oil pressure and doesn't die. Air cleaner filter was really bad, changed it last night. Haven't had a chance to check much out on it yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Diane

Message: Sounds like a bad batt or alternator not putting
out at low rpm.
If you have a volt meter put it on the batt and
at idle you should have around 13.5 volts if its
below 12.5 it will give you probs because the
system can not fungtion properly with low volts
Rev the motor a little and you should see the
volts go up.
Put a charger on the batt and see if it runs ok
for a while untill the volts drop after you know
its full charged
Check that first the reason the oil presure drops
is because the engine is shutting down

Message: Thanks Larry! I'll try that. The truck has a good strong sounding motor too, but seems to be holding back when you gas it. I know it should have more power than it does. Just isn't responsive at all. Could this still be from not getting enough voltage? Thanks in advance, Diane

Message: After hearing that I would also check the cat to
be sure its not pluged and posible bad O2
Start with the easy stuff first and track the
problem down before you start dumping unnesasary
money into it.
Also on the Exh you will see a rotating round
deal with a spring, it is a heat riser and may
not be working right and closing off the exh
if so just tie it in the open posistion for now

The crank sensor mod is a great mod, what you
notice most is low end power and on the highway
better gas mileage.
It does also help at higher rpm its just not that
noticeable as it is off idle and low rpm.
The scraped and cut fingers and all the swearing
to do the mod is worth it.

Message: Larry,
I didn't get a chance to check everything you told me to today, but when I went to get the dak inspected and some other running around done, It was running better with just having the new air filter on it. It didn't try to die when slowing or stopping anymore. I checked the volts on the battery with it idling, got around 12.5, so that could be my problem with the washer fluid light still blinking when rpm's go down.
I also checked the codes. Do you know what I should do for codes 22 and 24? If not, where should I go to find out. I have a list but it doesn't tell me enough for me to know what to do.
I now have another problem I almost forgot to ask, heater blower was working before, although it would seem to cut off and on sometimes. Now it doesn't work at all. Did I read on one of the forums about this problem? Where should I look? Thanks a million, Diane
