Subject: Can anybody help me!!! Please!!! IP: Logged
Message: Hello I'm new to this site Trav told me about it. But anyways, I have an 87 with 210,500 With slight timing chain knock. It only knocks when its idling. I drive it pretty hard sometime but most of the time I take it easy with it. Does driving it hard make the chain even worse? I have a 2001 Dakota V6 too and my 16 year old son wants my truck over a 1998 Nissan I offered him. I know he is going to drive it pretty hard. Will it last with him?! One more Question, The truck makes a blowing sound when you first start it up( if it has sat up for at least 2 minutes) It the thermostat I think. When it warms up you can't hear it blowing. Is the thermostat mess up?
Thanks for all your help in advance. I really apppresate it. Sorry about my spelling!,
Ren

Message: I would change the timing chain if its rattling and the fan clutch is probably the blowing noise. The thermostat doesn't make any noise, only controls the engine temp.

Message: I had the same problem with my 1996 4x4. The problem is a broken timing chain tensioner. Now that it is fixed, runs like new.
Hope this helps.
